Bosses at the £350m Vivergo facility are warning government action is still needed to secure its future.

The firm employs 150 people, split between its plant in Hull and head office in Hessle.

The decision to reopen follows the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) being passed through Parliament in March.

It is hoped this will improve trading conditions and increase the use of renewable fuels in transport from 4.75% to a target of 9.75% by 2020.

Vivergo's managing director is now calling for the introduction of E10 fuel - a blend of 10% renewable bioethanol with petrol which can lower emissions from vehicles.

    Quote Message

While we value the recent government commitment to the RTFO, it is vital we now progress this through the rapid introduction of E10 for three key reasons: to provide an immediate impact on transport emissions, to encourage investment and provide job stability."
