    It's bananas how well an idea that started in Brigg to get more children eating fresh fruit is going!

    Maria Simpson is a customer assistant at Tesco in the town and her free fruit idea has gone nationwide with more than 50 million pieces of fruit being handed out since it's introduction nearly two years ago.

    There's now splitting favourites, bananas are the most appealing with more than 21 million snapped up by children while their parents are shopping.

    Apples are the next favourite followed by oranges.

    Maria says she's humbled her idea has taken off.

    More than 60 candidates across 15 wards have been nominated to stand in the North East Lincolnshire 2018 local elections.

    A biker who died following a collision on the A165 near Bempton last month has been named as Ryan Patrick Craven, aged 26, from Muston near Filey.

    Mr Craven’s family are being supported by specialist officers.

    Humberside Police are still appealing for witnesses and information about the accident.

    Humberside Police have released this image of a man they want to talk to in connection with the robbery of a 65-year-old woman in Sutton on Hull at 15:45 last Friday.

    The woman was pushed to the ground on Thamesbrook and her bag was stolen before the offender ran off down Lanyon Close.

    The woman was not injured but was very shaken.

    A special Armed Forces Day to mark 100 years since the end of World War One is to be held in Scunthorpe later this year.

    A former trawler skipper from Grimsby who became the oldest man to climb Everest has died.

    Jens Bojen, who came to Grimsby from Denmark, was a major figure in the town's fishing industry.

    In 2005, he got himself into the record books by becoming the oldest man to conquer Mount Everest at the age of 62.

    Humberside Police is trying to reduce the amount of motorbike crime in Hull.

    Officers want anyone who reports any motorcycle-related crimes to quote, external "Operation Yellowfin" to those taking the call.

    It is hoped linking motorbike-related crimes together will help the force deal with it more effectively.

    Some retailers in the city are taking part in the initiative and offering discount on security products as well as advice on how to keep bikes safe.

    A campaign to try and reduce the number of people in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire developing diabetes will begin in the summer.
