  2. Captain of Russian tanker fined for safety breachespublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 14 June 2018

    The captain of a Russian oil tanker, which berthed in Immingham, has been ordered to pay a fine and costs of almost £26,000 after he admitted a series of safety breaches.

    The tanker Tecoil Polaris arrived on the 5 June from Finland.

    The Port Authority reported concerns about the competency of the master and crew as the vessel approached and berthed at Immingham Docks.

    Maritime and Coastguard Agency inspectors found a series of problems with navigation and safety equipment and a "significant" failure to comply with an international safety code.

    Vitaliy Trofimov appeared at Hull Magistrates' Court today and pleaded guilty to the breaches.

    The vessel has been detained and won't be released until the captain's £1,400 fine and costs of more than £24,000 are paid.

    British Steel will not be Scunthorpe United's shirt sponsor for the 2018-19 football season, the club has confirmed.

    The firm has sponsored the club since 2016, but its two-year deal has expired and is not being renewed.

    British Steel says it's taken great pride in sponsoring the football club.

    An announcement on who the new shirt sponsor will be is expected in the near future, the club says.

    Hull City Council have told the BBC they're fully committed to the keeping the music service in the city going.

    A public meeting was held last night amid concerns about the future of the music service in Hull.

    The service is currently used by thousands of children in schools across the city, but now an academy trust has decided to withdraw its support and set up its own service.

    A petition calling for the decision to be reversed has been signed by more than 3,000 people.

    The council's deputy leader said the authority is determined to maintain the service.

    Security patrols across hospitals in Hull and East Yorkshire will be increased after Items used to keep dementia patients calmer while in hospital were stolen.

    Thieves targeted Hull Royal Infirmiry's fracture clinic on Tuesday morning and a stole "twiddle muffs" and a "twiddle pillow".

    Twiddle muffs, knitted tubes often fashioned with ribbons, buttons, bells and zips, have been found to have a calming effect on people with dementia by keeping their hands busy and warding off anxiety.

    It's the second time that items have been stolen from the clinic.

    A few weeks ago memorabilia including a tea cosy, tea pots and dishes were stolen from a 1960s-themed room aimed at helping dementia patients.

    Beverley and Holderness Conservative MP Graham Stuart says he welcomes a decision to review Withernsea's "eight to eight" health centre.

    Meanwhile, the deputy chair of the Withernsea Health Forum, Brian Cloke, has said he thinks people calling the NHS 111 service aren't being referred to the facility.

    A meeting is due to be held tomorrow between local councillors and the company running the service in Withernsea to see what improvements can be made.

    An East Yorkshire breast cancer survivor is backing calls for more specialist staff following an NHS screening error which affected thousands of women.

    Up to 270 women in England may have died because they did not receive invitations to a final routine breast cancer screening, the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt revealed last month.

    He said 450,000 women aged 68-71 had failed to get invitations since 2009.

    Mr Hunt announced an independent review and apologised "wholeheartedly" to the women and their families.

    Cases of so-called "revenge porn" have almost doubled in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire over the last three years.

    Revenge Porn

    Revenge porn is the sharing of private, sexual photos or videos of another person without their consent and it became a criminal offence in April 2015.

    An investigation by BBC Yorkshire also found that more than one in three people who reported cases of so-called revenge porn withdrew their complaint.

    Charities which support the victims say this is largely because victims aren't given anonymity as it's not classified as a sexual offence.
