    A 72-year-old woman has been assaulted after she returned home to find a burglar in her property in Bridlington.

    The incident happened at a home on Sewerby Road on 9 June at about 19:00.

    It's thought the man had got into the property through a rear window.

    The suspect pinned the victim against a wall and twisted her wrists.

    He fled after stealing her purse.

    He is described as a white and skinny, with protruding eyes.

    It is believed he's in his 20s, about 5ft 7in, with a shaved hair cut.

    A public meeting is being held tonight to discuss concerns about the future of the school music service in Hull.

    The service is currently used by thousands of children in schools across the city, but now an academy trust has decided to withdraw support and set up its own service.

    A petition calling for the decision to be reversed has been signed by more than 3,000 people.

    Hull City Council says it is committed to funding the service.

    Discussions are being held about whether the Yorkshire Wolds should aim to become a UNESCO Global Geopark, external.

    UNESCO Global Geoparks are geographical areas where sites and landscapes of international significance are managed for protection, education and sustainable development.

    A conference looking at how this could be achieved, external is to take place in Market Weighton at the end of the month.

    It would mean the Wolds would be managed in a way which combines conservation with sustainable development.

    It would also allow people living in the area to have their say over how the environment is conserved.

  4. Official opening for Grimsby-based offshore windfarmpublished at 10:01 British Summer Time 13 June 2018

    A new windfarm to be maintained and serviced from Grimsby will be officially opened today.

    It includes 91 turbines located off the North Norfolk coast and uses Siemens blades which are made in Hull.

    It's claimed that the windfarm, which is run by Danish power company Orsted, can produce enough electricity for half-a-million UK homes.

    Matthew Wright, managing director of Orsted, says the number of Grimsby jobs involved in maintaining the site will grow:

    A letter from Yorkshire businesses and politicians calling for urgent action to improve the railways in the north of England is due to be delivered to the Prime Minister later.

    It follows weeks of disruption for passengers using services run by rail operator Northern.

    The company is still operating an emergency timetable with hundreds of services cancelled after a scheduled restructuring last month.

    Henri Murison, from the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, which represents businesses and councils, says: "The north of England should be in charge of sorting this out."

    Passengers made two million fewer journeys across Hull and East Yorkshire last year than in 2015-16, according to new statistics.

    Hull and Humber Environment Forum, which has compiled the figures, says the trend for fewer bus journeys is concerning.

    In response, Hull City Council says it has introduced several measures in a bid to reverse the trend such as bus lane cameras and the Hull Card, which offers passengers a discount.

    Funding will also be made available to further develop a northern park and ride scheme, according to the council.

    Nearly 50 people have been arrested in a week as part of a crackdown on drug use in Hull city centre.

    Humberside Police say they have been taking action following complaints about people in a zombie-like state after taking the drug Spice.

    Officers have also banned nearly 80 people from the centre.

    Parents whose dead babies' ashes were scattered or kept without their knowledge are confident there's more support for their calls for an independent inquiry in Hull.

    Members of the Action for Ashes Hull Support Group say most of the city's newly elected councillors had previously agreed to back their demands for an inquiry.

    A special Labour Group meeting of city councillors is taking place today - the support group hopes they'll discuss the issue.

    The government's being urged to help shop workers in Hull whose jobs may be at risk following the announcement of the closure of House of Fraser stores.

    The Labour MP for Hull North, Diana Johnson, told the Commons that the retail sector employs 12,000 people in Hull but she's concerned about the future.

    The Business Secretary, Greg Clark, says that the city is getting support.

    House of Fraser plans to close 31 of its 59 stores, including those in Hull and Grimsby.

    Louise, who is from Hull, started in the rail industry in 2001 as a guard with Northern Rail.

    Will Dunnett, the previous MD, stood down from the business in March following a series of cancellations and delays to trains.

    Police say they're becoming increasingly worried for the safety of 44-year-old Garry Clephane, who has been missing since he left his home on Danes Close, Grimsby on 30 May 2018.

    They say they know Garry has visited London, Preston, Doncaster and more recently York, where he was last seen visiting the A&E department at the hospital on Monday morning at about 07:30.

    He's white, 5ft 10in, with light brown hair and of medium build.

    Garry does have some cash and a mobile phone but that’s now switched off, police said.

    Officers said he could be running out of money and might be sleeping rough.

    Police have made 48 arrests, issued 78 dispersal notices and conducted 58 searches in the first week of an operation aimed at tackling street drinking, drug dealing and taking in Hull City Centre.

    The force says more officers are visible in the city centre as part of Operation Ignition.

    It comes after footage was taken showing people walking around in a "zombie-like" state.

    Business had claimed the city centre was a "no-go zone" due to open drug dealing taking place.

    CCTV images have been released of three men who police want to find in connection with two separate burglaries at Willy's pub on High Cliff Road in Cleethorpes.

    The robberies took place on 28 April 2018, but police have only just released the images.

    Both incidents happened on the same night.

    The presence of 27 different types of pharmaceutical drug has been recorded in rivers which flow into the Humber.

    Samples taken from 11 sites on the Foss and Ouse in York, which passes through East Yorkshire and into the Humber, revealed a range of drug compounds.

    This included antidepressants, antibiotics and epilepsy medicines.

    Some drugs which cannot be prescribed in the UK were also found.

    Previous lab-based studies have revealed environmental impacts of pharmaceuticals, including altering the behaviour and reproduction of fish.

    Humberside Police have released an e-fit of a man they are looking for in connection with an alleged assault and robbery in Hull:

    The victim had withdrawn an amount of cash from a cash machine on Beverley Road at about 05:30 on 24 May.

    He turned down into Stepney Lane where he said he was grabbed from behind by a man who held a piece of glass to his cheek.

    A second man stood in front of him holding what the victim thought was a needle.

    The pair took the victim’s money and ran off.

    The victim was left shaken and suffered minor injuries to his cheek.
