  2. Jane Tomlinson's fundraising legacy continuespublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 13 June 2018

    The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, the legacy of the late inspirational fundraiser from Leeds, is announcing a new approach for its charitable work, refocusing on her original wishes.

    The charity has distributed grants to other causes for the last ten years, but it will now focus on four key projects.

    Those include:

    • Co-funding research into a blood test to detect breast cancer at a much earlier stage
    • Research into physiotherapy ‘sports taping’ techniques to relieve pain in cancer patients
    • Bereavement support for children across the North and Midlands who have lost a loved one
    • The Mermaids and Young Tritons school programmes in Leeds, Sheffield and Hull, supporting children's emotional and physical wellbeing.

    Jane Tomlinson completed a series of epic endurance challenges, after being diagnosed with incurable cancer, before her death at the age of 43 in 2007.

    Tonight will be cloudy with rain at times but it should turn drier during the early hours.

    Tomorrow morning will be a very windy day with some very strong gusts and the Met Office has issued a weather warning for parts of Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, external.

  5. Zero tolerance approach on anti-social behaviourpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 13 June 2018

    Hull City Council have today announced that, along with Humberside Police, they will take a zero tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour in the city centre.

    It follows concerns about open drug use and street drinking in the city centre.

    At a meeting yesterday, Hull City Council and Humberside Police pledged to continue to reduce the number of people in the city begging and sleeping rough, while adopting a zero tolerance approach to crime and anti-social behaviour.

    Humberside and Lincolnshire Police are renewing a joint appeal to try and find 31-year-old Oscar Nazars who has been missing for two weeks.

    It's thought Mr Nazars, who is from Spalding, may be in the Grimsby area:

  8. Yorkshire County Cricket to consider chairman's role 'later'published at 16:38 British Summer Time 13 June 2018

    Yorkshire County Cricket Club have said it will decide an appropriate course of action after its chairman, accountant Steve Denison, was fined £325,000 for misconduct relating to an audit of BHS.

    The company went into administration in 2016 with the loss of 11,000 jobs.

    Mr Denison admitted misconduct relating to his audit of the company.

    As well as banning Mr Denison from the profession for 15 years, the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) fined him £325,000 and the company that employed him £6.5m.

    Yorkshire County Cricket say it will make a decision on Mr Denison's role when it gets full details from the Financial Reporting Council.

    Hull's new music venue is enlisting the help of volunteers to make sure their toilets can cope with the demands of a busy concert.

    The 'Grand Flush' will see 140 people test all the toilets at the same time.

  10. Drivers told to take care as high winds approachpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 13 June 2018

    Highways England, external are warning drivers travelling across parts of East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire tomorrow to prepare for strong gales.

    Roads expected to be the worst affected include the A1 and the M62 motorway.

    Wind speeds across the north of England are expected to reach 50 mph and occasionally 60mph, between 06:00 to 13:00 on Thursday.

    Motorists, particularly those driving high-sided HGVS, caravans and motorcycles, are being advised to check the weather and driving conditions before setting out.

    A woman who was born in Hull and lived here all of her life has been told she isn't a British national.

    Joanna Banks, 34, has an English father and a Polish mother.

    She applied for her first passport to go on holiday with her family, but was told she doesn't have British nationality and would need to pay £1,500 and complete a citizenship test.

    Her British father had not been put on the birth certificate and has since died.

    The Home Office have been approached for a response and are yet to respond.

  13. Man wanted over Beverley burglarypublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 13 June 2018

    Humberside Police say they believe a man, who they want to speak to in connection with a burglary in Beverley, is from the York area.

    £25,000 worth of property was stolen from the Hugh Rice Jewellers in Beverley at about 04:00 on 6 November 2017.

    Two men, Ian Billany, 39, and Lee Rose, 38, of Morpeth Street in Hull were jailed for the burglary on 8 June.

    Humberside Police say they're trying to find the third man wanted who is wanted in connection with the burglary.

    Police say they're concerned about the welfare of a 27-year-old man who has gone missing from his home in Hull.

    Ben Gray was reported missing from the Holderness Road area of Hull this morning.

    He is described as white, 6ft 2in, with shoulder length mousy brown hair and a beard.

  16. World's fifth biggest wind farm opens off Lincs coastpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 13 June 2018

    The fifth biggest wind farm in the world has opened off the Norfolk and Lincolnshire coast, featuring 91 huge turbines.

    The Race Bank development will be capable of powering more than half-a-million UK homes, according to the Danish energy firm Orsted.

    The turbines are the first to use the massive 75m-long blades made at the Siemens Gamesa blade factory in Hull.

    The wind farm will be maintained and serviced from Grimsby.

    Camilla Carlbom Flinn, from Team Humber Marine Alliance, says the town has already been benefiting from the project for several years:

  18. Written warning for officer who shared 'genitals text'published at 12:24 British Summer Time 13 June 2018

    A police officer who showed a photo of a male officer's genitals to colleagues has been given a final written warning.

    PC Katie Jackson, of Humberside Police, allegedly shared the photo after being told not to by a superior officer.

    Det Supt Matthew Baldwin said her actions "showed a lack of respect and courtesy" for her colleagues.

    Allegations PC Jackson made a false statement that she had been assaulted by a suspect, and took time off as a result, were found not proven.

  19. Yorkshire landowner becomes 'tree champion'published at 11:55 British Summer Time 13 June 2018

    A Yorkshire landowner has been appointed "Tree Champion" by the government, to drive forward its target to plant 11 million trees as part of a 25-year plan.

    Appointing Sir William Worsley, who runs the Hovingham estate in North Yorkshire, the Environment Secretary Michael Gove said he would help drive forward planting rates and prevent street trees being felled.

    Sir William is the current chairman of the National Forest Company.

    The plan to create a new Northern Forest stretching from Liverpool to Hull was announced in January.
