    A security guard's had ammonia sprayed in his face during an armed raid in Brighouse this afternoon.

    He was attacked outside Barclays Bank in the town centre just after 13:00 and a cash box was stolen.

    The raider ran off and the guard is being treated in hospital after the attack on Briggate in the town.

    A man has been arrested after a 19-year-old woman was raped near Leeds city centre at the weekend.

    The woman was attacked just after 21:00 on Saturday night next to the River Aire near the junction of Neville Street and Sovereign Street.

    Detectives say a 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape in the Burmantofts area in the early hours of this morning and remains in custody.

    The 28-year-old is wanted in connection with an assault reported to police on 18 January.

    He is known to frequent the Hoyland, Jump and Wombwell areas of Barnsley.

    A Leeds mum is trying to find a doctor who lives in Birmingham after she helped her daughter when she fell ill on a flight from Egypt yesterday.

    Lesley Keeley was on a flight back from Marsa Alam with her one-year-old daughter Nancy when her temperature suddenly rocketed up and she became unresponsive with her eyes rolling into the back of her head.

    Flight crews gave her medicine and a doctor on board that came to the family's aid to Nancy treatment.

    Lesley said "She explained what was happening, stripped her down and gave her a special blanket. She also got her cold flannels for her head."

    The doctor stayed with the family until paramedics arrived at Birmingham airport - Now Keeley wants to find her so she can thank her and give her an update on Nancy.

    Councillors are being asked to agree to spending more than £4m on the project.

    Fourteen community arts groups in Leeds say they may be forced to close if the city council goes ahead with plans to raise prices and limit access to the venue they use.

    The Community Arts Network have worked out of the Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds city centre since 2005 - but now the council says they can no longer afford to offer reduced charges to the voluntary organisations.

    About 800 people are involved in the Community Arts Network. They currently pay £5 an hour but that will increase to £25 by 2020.

    Cluny MacPherson from Leeds City Council said "It is just trying to make sure everyone pays a reasonable and fair amount. Room hire costs that are less than £5 an hour is not sustainable in the current climate."

    Tributes are being paid to former Barnsley owner Patrick Cryne. His death, aged 66, from cancer, was announced yesterday.

    Mr Cryne has left an impressive legacy according to the former Barnsley Chief Executive Ben Mansford.

    A crucial meeting next month could decide whether York City FC survives, it's being claimed.

    Club chairman Jason McGill (pictured) says £1m is needed to keep the club afloat and, as he owns three-quarters of the shares, he's prepared to put up three-quarters of it.

    But Mr McGill says he wants the club's Supporters' Trust to pay the remaining £250,000 or hand over their 25% share in York City to him.

    The founder of a Bradford academy and a former teacher have been ordered to repay nearly £35,000 after being jailed for defrauding the school.

    Sajid Raza, 43, who set up Kings Science Academy, and his sister Shabana Hussain, 40, paid £69,000 of government grants into their own bank accounts.

    The siblings were jailed after being found guilty at a trial in August 2016.

    A judge has ruled Raza, pictured above in 2012 with then Prime Minister David Cameron, must pay the school more than £22,000 or face an additional 12 months in prison.

    Hussain was ordered to repay £12,800 at the Proceeds of Crime hearing at Leeds Crown Court.

    Some bus passengers in North Yorkshire say it's still unclear whether vital bus services will return after operator Stephensons of Easingwold suddenly stopped running services last week.

    While most services have been picked up by other companies, routes like the 194 from Hovingham to Malton are still vacant.

    The company was also responsible for taking 900 children to and from school, but the county council's found new operators to cover those routes.
