    Police searching for a missing 11-year-old girl in Halifax have found a body in the River Calder.

    Ursula Keogh, who was last seen wearing her school uniform, was reported missing at about 15:45.

    West Yorkshire Police say the body of a young female was discovered in the Paris Gates area of the town.

    There is not believed to be any suspicious circumstances at this stage, a spokesperson for the force added.

    Officials are preparing to end a temporary rent reduction for stallholders at Leeds market.

    The 20% cut was brought in last year to help businesses deal with a drop in trade.

    But the council says the average number of people visiting Kirkgate Market each week is now higher than in 2015.

    Leeds City Council says they're proposing to charge full rents again from May.

    Officials in Wakefield are considering putting council tax up by almost 5% from April - to help save £28m.

    The council says more jobs will also go - as it deals with a continuing drop in government funding.

    Wakefield Council says it's proposing an increase of just under 3% in normal council tax - and is also thinking about adding an additional 2%, which would go directly towards paying for social care.

    Other proposals include cutting senior management jobs, charging for car parking at some parks and increasing charges at sports facilities.

    Called Yorkshire's Jurassic World, it'll look at the changing landscapes of Jurassic Yorkshire and the huge creatures which inhabited them.

    The 91-year-old naturalist and TV presenter will open the exhibition at the Yorkshire Museum in March.

  5. More arrests in Sheffield human trafficking casepublished at 17:11 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2018

    More arrests have been made as part of a police investigation into human trafficking in Sheffield and Stockton.

    Four men were arrested on Friday, bringing the total now under investigation to 14.

    The men, aged between 22 and 34 and from the Cleveland area, were arrested for offences including rape, sexual assault, conspiracy to rape and conspiracy to commit human trafficking.

    Police in Sheffield say they're trying to find out more information about an assault on Boxing Day which left a 61-year-old man unconscious and on the ground.

    It happened as the man left the Handsworth Inn on Handsworth Road around 23:00 after he had been celebrating with his family.

    Officers say that the victim doesn't know who punched him and that he was left with serious injuries.

    A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident and released under investigation.

    A man has died in Bradford after the car he was in hit a brick wall yesterday lunchtime.

    It happened at about 13:30 when his grey Audi Q7 was travelling along Birksland Street. It left the road and hit a wall in Bowling Back Lane.

    Police say that the man was in his twenties and was one of five passengers in the car - the other four were treated for injuries at hospital.

    A 22-year-old man from Bristol was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, he has since been released under investigation.

    Officers say they're now looking for witnesses.

    Unions are asking staff working at Airedale General Hospital in Keighley if they want to take industrial action.

    It's over what unions are calling privatisation plans.

    Airedale NHS Foundation Trust is considering setting up a private company to run things like cleaning and purchasing at the hospital.

    UNISON, Unite and the GMB unions claim it could affect their members' pay.

    27 year-old Brandon Price of Belford Road in Harrogate was seen weaving through traffic in Blubberhouses, causing near misses and then leaving the scene of a crash after clipping a lorry.

    From today passengers using First Bus in South Yorkshire wont need to carry change for the journey.

    The company has introduced contactless payments and says the move has been in big demand. It can be used for single trips or adult day tickets up to the value of £30.

    First Bus says it'll introduce the same payment system, external for weekly tickets later in the year.

    From the start of February the City Council's introducing charges for things like soil, plasterboard, chimney pots, toilets and sinks.

    The council says it won't make a profit from this, and proceeds will instead provide a reduction in high waste disposal costs.

    This may look like a big long new wall to you, but it's actually £20m of new flood defences in Sheffield.

    The project is designed to protect hundreds of businesses in the Lower Don Valley area of the city.

    It'll be officially unveiled on Thursday and came about after flooding in 2007 and 2012 and has been seven years in the making.

    The wall now runs along a five mile stretch of the River Don and it will protect 500 businesses which form the second most important economic area of the city.

    Work has begun on a new £80m building for Leeds Beckett University.

    The Creative Arts building will be home to the university's School of Film, Music and Performing Arts and the fashion department.

    It's being built on Portland Way, and is due to be completed in September 2020.

  19. 'Arranged' mass brawl between school pupilspublished at 13:44 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2018

    A fight between two groups of teenagers in Conisbrough, Doncaster, on Saturday was pre-arranged, police believe.

    It happened just before 18:00 on Doncaster Road and left two teenagers needing hospital treatment for minor injuries.

    Detectives believe it was arranged between groups from different schools.

    South Yorkshire Police have launched an investigation into the brawl.
