    A West Yorkshire charity which helps struggling families has been targeted by burglars.

    The Leeds Baby Bank, in Bramley, takes donations and gives them to people in need.

    The charity's website reports "all donations have been suspended".

    Lynsey Jayes, Baby Bank co-founder, says the robbery is "devastating".

    More than 100 homes in the Sheffield 8 area now have power back on.

    It went off at about 06:30 today, says Northern Powergrid.

    The findings of a Freedom of Information request have sparked a meeting between cab drivers and City of York Council.

    Last month, the authority decided the online cab-hailing app firm's licence in the city wouldn't be renewed.

    The company's renewal bid was rejected over complaints the city was being "overwhelmed" by drivers using the app.

    Uber wants to meet councillors after a Freedom of Information request revealed most complaints made against the firm were by the city's other taxi drivers.

    An appeal against City of York Council's decision is due to be heard at the end of the month.

    Sheffield's Real Junk Food Project, external is appealing for charities, businesses, school and other organisation to let them know if they can take some of their surplus frozen and sliced cherry tomatoes.

    They come in 10kg drums and they're going begging because a large food manufacturer has offered them as it can't use them for the the purpose they had in mind.

    In a statement, the project says: "Normally we say yes to everything and work out the finer details later, but this is going to take a bit more organising and some help given the quantities."

    Gambling's become such a problem in Yorkshire that there are now plans for a dedicated NHS treatment clinic.

    The centre, in Leeds, would be supported by betting companies.

    It will be targeted at treating some of the estimated 10,000 problem gamblers in the city.

    An amateur cyclist from North Yorkshire has won two gold medals at the Track World Cup in Minsk.

    Charlie Tanfield's time in the men's individual pursuit saw him become the second fastest Briton ever.

    Only Olympic champion Chris Boardman has posted a better time.

    A team including Tanfield and his older brother, Harry, who are from Great Ayton, also took gold in the men's team pursuit.

    A map of the Yorkshire Dales has been "re-imagined" in the style of "Hobbit" author J.R.R. Tolkien.

    Dan Bell, 25, hopes to draw each of the country's national parks in the same style and recently completed the Dales.

    The amateur cartographer says: "I like to think the maps allow people to imagine where they live in a Tolkien style."

    Gordale Scar, near Malham, is said to be the inspiration for Helm's Deep in the fantasy author's writing.

    Mr Bell, a biologist and keen hill-walker, said the maps are "not drawn with accuracy in mind".

    He has now drawn six out of 15 parks, including the Lake District and the Peak District, he said.

    A man is in a life-threatening condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Doncaster.

    Police say the 60-year-old, who it's thought had fallen in to the road, was hit by a blue BMW travelling towards Thorne, along Field Road, close to the junction with St Nicholson Road (pictured).

    Officers want to hear from anyone who saw what happened, particularly anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the incident,

  11. Citybound closure for Leeds Bridge as repairs carried outpublished at 08:07 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2018

    A bridge over the River Aire is now closed to traffic coming into Leeds city centre for 16 months as repairs are carried out.

    The maintenance work is to replace old concrete with stronger steel-reinforced material on the bridge, which is made of wrought and cast iron.

    The Grade II-listed bridge carries traffic on Bridge End over the river and was finished in 1873.

    It was the location of some of the first ever recorded moving film footage showing traffic on the bridge in 1888.

    The pioneer film-maker Louis Le Prince captured traffic travelling across the bridge and a blue plaque close by records the feat.

    Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson has until 18:00 tonight to respond to a Football Association charge of bringing the game into disrepute.

    Ferguson was upset by refereeing decisions made during his side's one-all draw with Plymouth.

    Ferguson claimed a "blatant penalty" was not awarded by referee Andy Haines in the dying seconds of the game.

    Asked by BBC Radio Sheffield what he would like the FA to do, the 45-year-old responded "shoot them".

    Almost 30 school bus routes which carry a total of about 900 children are being run by stand-in providers this morning, after a large North Yorkshire bus company ceased operating.

    Stephensons of Easingwold went into voluntary liquidation on Friday afternoon, with an announcement from the firm expected today.

    The county council's spent the weekend arranging cover for all 27 school routes, but seven other services remain un-staffed, including the 181 Malton to York, via Castle Howard.

    There's currently a power cut in the S8 area of Sheffield which is affecting about 110 properties.

    Northern Powergrid says it's working hard to restore power as quickly as possible and it estimates it'll be back on at about 09:30, external.

    The energy company says the problem has been caused by "an unexpected problem with equipment in the area".

    A man who was found with serious injuries in Huddersfield at the weekend has died.

    The man, 49, was discovered on Common Lane in Lepton at about 07:40 on Saturday morning.

    While police are not treating the man's death as suspicious, officers say they still do not have a "complete picture" of how he got his injuries.

    Det Insp Lee Donnelly says: "Our CCTV enquiries have allowed us to track some of his movements prior to the incident.

    “It is important, however, that we can fill in the gaps of the timeline that led to him sustaining these serious injuries."

    Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact police.

    The number of flu cases in Sheffield is increasing and people at risk are being urged to get a flu jab.

    Those at risk include pregnant women, people over 65, care home residents and carers.

    New Wales Office minister Stuart Andrew has said he sees no conflict between that job and his role as a West Yorkshire MP.

    Long delays are expected in York today as work to upgrade a key city centre junction continues.

    Traffic signals at the Lendal Arch gyratory - one of the city's busiest junctions - are being upgraded and motorists are being told to expect "significant disruption".

    City of York Council says motorists who regularly travel through the area should "plan an alternative route where possible".

    The work is expected to take 10 weeks to complete and will take place seven days a week from 08:00 to 18:00.
