    A total of £80m is going to be spent on repairing Yorkshire's major roads by the end of this year.

    Highways England says more than 130 miles of motorways and A-roads will be resurfaced across Yorkshire this year, including parts of the M1, M62 and A64.

    But Mark Ramsden, from Highways England, says there will be "minimal impact" on drivers as "about two thirds of the work will be done overnight".

    The contractors delivering the roadworks projects are "unsung heroes, working all hours in all weathers", Mr Ramsden adds.

    A West Yorkshire MP has joined calls for the Transport Secretary to resign after widespread cancellations and delays on the railways across the north after the introduction of a new timetable.

    Some victims of child sexual exploitation in Rotherham face a wait of up to six months for counselling, according to a report due to be discussed today.

    The most significant waiting list is for therapeutic interventions with Rotherham Abuse Counselling Services, the Rotherham Council report says, external.

    At the end of April this year, 131 victims or survivors were waiting for counselling in the town.

    Responding to the report's findings, Rotherham Labour MP Sarah Champion says the government must act.

    "There's no point in blaming the council on this. Unless they have the money in place, they cannot commission these necessary services," Ms Champion says.

    A report, external published in 2014 estimated 1,400 children were abused in the South Yorkshire town between 1997 and 2013.

    Seven-year-old Mayon Jayawickrama is Great Britain champion in his age group after winning the under-10s Ippon Kumite (one-step sparring) category at the National Championship.

    A trade union has criticised the amount of money paid to the head of Yorkshire Water, saying it's now time to renationalise the industry.

    Last year, Yorkshire Water boss Richard Flint was paid £1.3m.

    But Justin Bowden, from the GMB, said: "A whopping £5.9m in salary bonuses, pensions and other benefits was paid over the past five years to the boss of Yorkshire Water.

    "That's seven times more than the Prime Minister in 2017 alone."

    Yorkshire Water says Mr Flint's pay is "set independently" and is in line with that of other water company bosses.

    Otherwise, there are several delays and cancellations on services from Yorkshire's main railway stations. These include:

    • The 07:24 Sheffield to London St Pancras via Nottingham is delayed
    • The 06:43 Doncaster to Adwick service has been cancelled
    • The 06:46 Doncaster to Southampton Central is running about six minutes late
    • The 06:47 Wakefield Westgate to London St Pancras via Nottingham is delayed
    • The 07:02 Bradford Interchange to York is currently running about 15 minutes late

    A man with dementia came out of a respite care unit with broken ribs and a fractured skull after being attacked by other patients, his family has claimed.

    Tony Thompson, 83, from West Yorkshire, was admitted to The Mount in Leeds in April 2017 for two weeks of respite care.

    While he was there he also suffered extensive bruising, his daughter Clare said.

    Mr Thompson, who has spent the past year being cared for on hospital wards in Leeds and Bradford, has now been offered a place at a care home in Harrogate.

    Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the unit, is investigating the claims.

    Fran Lawrenson and Chris Rooney, from Roundhay, had tickets to see folk singer Laura Veirs at the Brudenell Social Club on Sunday but unwittingly walked into a performance by American rock band Spoon - held in a different room in the same building.

    Fran said: "It's our fault, we should have looked at the tickets and there was a notice on the door, we just headed to the room we were used to going in.

    "Even at the end at around eleven o'clock we were wondering if she was still going to come on!"

    Chris added: "We felt sorry for Laura Veirs that the band we thought was her support act was going on a bit!

    "We found the situation so funny, it's just ridiculous and amusing."

    Four men broke into a house in Harrogate while two people were asleep in the property.

    It happened in Hookstone Road, last Friday morning, between 09:00 and 09:45.

    Officer think the offenders left the rear of the property and made off in a dark coloured BMW.

    North Yorkshire Polic particularly want information about two eyewitnesses who observed the incident take place.

    They're also appealing for anyone sitting in queuing traffic at the time, who saw anyone acting suspicious near the location.

    Police in Dewsbury say they want to speak to a man caught on CCTV after a teenage girl had a brick thrown at her as she walked home from school.

    The 14-year-old was walking with a friend along Halifax Road, in Staincliffe, last month when she was attacked.

    A man approached the girls and made "lewd comments" to the girls, they walked off but he then threw a brick at them.

    The brick hit the teenager on her arm and wrist and left her with minor injuries, the man then fled.

    A police officer received minor injuries after she was hit by a suspect's car in Bradford on Sunday evening.

    The newly-appointed police sergeant had seen the driver "committing a crime", West Yorkshire Police said.

    When her and a fellow officer went to question the suspect the car drove off hitting the female officer.
