Imagine Yorkshire and the rest of the country being under colossal sheets of ice, and not just in the way of a bad winter.
New research involving the University of Sheffield indicates that such a covering was seen over much of the UK and Ireland 2.5 million years ago.
Previously the experts believed it had happened 1.1 million years ago.
The new thinking comes after analysis of sediment cores and seismic data from deep beneath the North Sea.
Quote MessageThis work (sic) convincingly demonstrates that ancient iceberg scours deep beneath the sea-bed of the North Sea came from British or European ice sheets, rather than from icebergs from Greenland or North America."

A new plan to tackle inactivity in Doncaster puts walking at its heart, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
To encourage people to get out and about, the council says improved footpaths, less litter, new walking routes and more activities are planned.
It comes after a recent report showed Doncaster still has the lowest percentage of physically active adults compared to neighbouring areas.
The proportion of adults in the town who regularly get out for walk is also lower than the national average, according to the report.
Quote MessageEncouraging more walking can ease traffic congestion which enables the borough to grow, has positive health and wellbeing benefits that improve people's quality of life and helps to reduce air and noise pollution."

The chief executive of Bradford's hospitals has praised staff for their hard work and dedication after they were rated as "requiring improvement" for a second year.
Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was inspected by the Care Quality Commission in January.
It said the trust, which runs Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke's Hospital, had taken steps to improve but there was still room for further improvement.
The trust's chief executive, Professor Clive Kay, praised the staff but recognised that there was still work to be done across services.
Quote MessageWhilst it is disappointing that we were unable to improve our ratings for services as a result of the limited scope of the inspection, we do consider that at our next re-inspection, we can confidently move to an overall service rating of Good."

There's a call for 20mph speed limits to be introduced in side streets across North Yorkshire.
Many roads in York and other parts of the county already have the lower limit in place, particularly near schools.
But Mike Jordan, who leads North Yorkshire County Council's Transport Scrutiny Committee, says introducing it in villages would save children's lives.
"The lower speed limit will mean children coming out of school would be far more likely to survive [if they were hit by a car]," he said.
"Introducing the scheme would be a lot of work and enforcement would be difficult but at least it would slow drivers down."
