A Leicestershire family have been hit with a series of unfortunate events during a half-term break to Tenerife to celebrate their mum's 70th birthday.
Isabel Veasey from Burbage first became stranded on the Spanish Island after their flight home on Sunday was cancelled due to the sandstorm.
Her three-year-old son, Reuben, then contracted chickenpox confining them to the hotel room for another week and they became separated from her mum who has since returned home.
"From the time we booked this holiday to the time we are still here, everything has gone really wrong," said the 41-year-old teacher.
"It's not been a plain sailing year and we wanted to release all that tension and celebrate mum's 70th, but we have just found more tension here than we had before."
The family are keeping their fingers crossed they will be on a Jet2 flight back to Birmingham Airport on Monday.
It is hoped adapted face masks can identify patients with the illness before they show any symptoms.

High Peak MP Robert Largan has criticised a national newspaper for describing Buxton as being "in lockdown" after a coronavirus case was confirmed there.
The term was used in The Mirror's coverage as well as on the Daily Mail's website, which said some people in the town were too scared to go to the shops.
The Conservative member tweeted, external: "This is really unhelpful. A primary school and a doctors temporarily closing does not constitute a 'lockdown'. More responsible journalism please."
BBC Radio Derby's Matt Barlow, who lives in Buxton, said some of the more sensationalist reporting had left residents bemused.
