    Hugh Casswell
    Political reporter, BBC Radio Nottingham

Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards said some of her constituents are considering leaving their jobs because of the traffic disruption caused by work on the A52.

The closure of Clifton Bridge, which caused Nottingham to become the most congested city in the world on 10 February, is unlikely to fully reopen for the rest of the year.

The bridge has partially reopened but Highways England said fully reopening it could cause more damage.

In letters from Ms Edwards to Highways England and Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, she said news that lane closures are expected until at least the end of the year "caused a great deal of concern amongst my constituents".

She said: "The city is gridlocked with traffic and journeys that usually take half an hour are taking up to three hours or even longer. Furthermore, the buses and trams are stuck in the traffic so public transport is also being affected.

"My constituents inform me that their businesses are also suffering with people unable to get to work which is affecting tens of thousands of commuters a day.

"In extreme examples, I have heard of constituents considering leaving their jobs as they are simply unable to get to work on time."

Ms Edwards added she realises the work is necessary but wants to know what is being done to minimise disruption and has asked for estimated timescales for the current closures.

In her letter to Mr Shapps, she also asked him to look into the option of building another bridge over the River Trent.

    Amy Orton
    Local Democracy Reporter

Inspectors visiting a care home after an allegation of abuse said there was not enough staff.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited Enderby Grange after being informed of the incident.

A limited amount of information was given in the CQC report about the incident, but it said: "The incident indicated concerns about the management of people's behaviours.

"This inspection examined those risks. We found no evidence during this inspection that people were at risk of harm from this concern."

It added the incident may be subject to a criminal investigation.

Staff at the home in Sparsis Gardens in Narborough said they were "dumbfounded" when inspectors gave the home a "requires improvement" rating after visiting last August and publishing a report in October.

The CQC returned in December but the home's rating remained the same and inspectors said: "There were still not always enough staff to ensure people's safety and meet their needs."

Management told inspectors an extra member of staff had been deployed during the day since their last visit but the CQC said records showed there was not always an extra person on duty due to difficulties covering short notice staff absence.

The BBC Local Democracy Reporting Service has contacted Enderby Grange for comment.

    Chris Doidge
    BBC Radio Derby, political reporter

About half of taxis inspected on Derby's streets last year were found to have major defects that could have put passengers in danger.

The figures, for the year to March 2019, are equivalent to checking almost a fifth of the city's hackney carriages and private hire vehicles.

Out of 179 tested, 89 were found to have "serious defects" and had their licence suspended. Only 18 were "satisfactory".

    Taxi checks on Friday

Proposals to tighten the rules on taxi vehicles in Derby were rejected by the city council in August.

During a recent round of checks, seven vehicles were inspected and four had their taxi licence suspended, with two in such a poor condition they were prohibited from the road by the police until fixed.

Dave Basford, the council's licensing enforcement officer, said some drivers needed to start taking safety more seriously by sharpening up their maintenance schedule.
