  7. Residents slam waste plant consultaion as 'tick-box excerise'published at 10:52 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2017

    BBC Radio Lincolnshire

This week we've been telling you about an ongoing row between residents of Long Leys Road in Lincoln and a company called Veolia, who want to build a waste recycling plant there.

Last night the company held a consultation with residents and some of them have told us they were not happy with how it went:

    Quote Message

We're tired of big business thinking it can walk all over us. The meeting was just a 'tick-box' exercise. They sent people down to collect comment forms so they could say, for example, people are concerned about noise, odour, or traffic, and they'll then try to pick off these issues one by one and pretend they have resolved our concerns. They just don't get it - what we think has nothing to do with the detail, we simply say this is an inappropriate development for an unsuitable site.

    Shirley Court, Resident

The company says that the site is appropriate and it'll stop waste from going to landfill.

  8. Bird Flu: Lincolnshire 'in the firing line'published at 10:34 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2017

    Alex Rhodes
    BBC Lincolnshire Live

As we told you earlier, the latest outbreak of Bird Flu in the third case in the county in about four weeks.

6,000 birds were infected at Low Farm in Fulstow near Louth and more than 5,000 were infected nearby at Austen Fen Farm.

Given that these two locations are in the north of the county and this latest is in the south it's unlikely the infection spread from the previous cases.

Alison Pratt from the National Farmers' Union says it's wild birds they're worried about:

    Quote Message

Bird Flu is now in the wild bird population and given our location on the East Coast we're in the firing line... it was inevitable we'd be getting the disease. It's a devastating time for all poultry farmers, added expense, added husbandry, high bio-security levels... it's a stressful time for everyone."
