  3. Dambuster deserves knighthood '100 times more' than celebritiespublished at 17:44 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2017

    Alex Rhodes
    BBC Lincolnshire Live

We told you earlier that Carol Vorderman was handing in a petition to Downing Street today calling for a knighthood for Lincolnshire-born Dambuster George "Johnny" Johnson.

That's now been delivered to Number 10 with more than 200,000 signatures attached to it.

    "Johnny" Johnson

Johnny was nominated for the New Year Honours list this year but didn't make the final cut.

Gulf War veteran John Nichol says he can't think of anyone more deserving:

    Quote Message

If a celebrity deserves an award, or a great sportsman, or a great fashion designer, then you can be absolutely sure "Johnny" Johnson deserves one 100 times more. He's our last British Dambuster and it'd be great to recognise everything he's done since the war."

    John Nichol, Gulf War veteran

  7. Update: Council issues statement over combine mix-uppublished at 16:43 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2017

    Alex Rhodes
    BBC Lincolnshire Live

More now on the bus lane ticket issued to the owners of a combine harvester.

Unsurprisingly the council haven't put up much of a fight about this one:

    Quote Message

The Penalty Charge Notice has been issued in error and a letter has been sent to the vehicle owner letting him know that the notice has been cancelled and no further action is required. We would like to apologise for the inconvenience, anyone who is issued with a PCN has the right to appeal.

  9. Council cameras combine conundrumpublished at 16:11 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2017

    Alex Rhodes
    BBC Lincolnshire Live

Now, can you spot the difference between this:

    CCTV

    and this...

    Combine

Well apparently bus cameras in Hull can't!

For the second time Roger and Rita Oates, from a village near Lincoln, have got a ticket from the council for apparently driving their massive combine harvester down a bus lane.

But clearly the picture they got from the council shows a silver Citroen Picasso rather than a bright red farm vehicle.

    Rita isn't impressed:

    Quote Message

Well we haven't been to Hull for fifty years for one thing. Also the registration belongs to our huge Ferguson combine, I don't think a massive combine with a 25 foot head could fit down a bus lane to be honest.

  14. Police won't be investigated over Bradford City firepublished at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2017

West Yorkshire Police will not be investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission, external (IPCC) over the 1985 Bradford City fire disaster.

    fire

56 people, including two Lincoln City fans, died and more than 250 others were injured at the Valley Parade stadium in May 1985.

The IPCC says that "there is no indication of potential misconduct by individual police officers" during the disaster.

The fire was investigated by the commission after allegations by one of the survivors, Martin Fletcher, who lost his father, uncle, grandfather and younger brother in the tragedy.

    Quote Message

My decision not to conduct an investigation was not taken lightly; it comes as a result of detailed consideration of both Mr Fletcher’s concerns about the role of the police and documents obtained from West Yorkshire Police.

    Sarah Green, IPCC Deputy Chair

    Quote Message

There's no doubt about it there are more suitable sites in the city... I don't think the whole thing has been thought through in a joined up way.

    Alex Rhodes
    BBC Lincolnshire Live

More now on the Knight statues that will soon be springing up all over the Lincoln.

    Lincoln KnightsImage source, Lincoln Knights

A number of artists have been tasked with painting them up and bringing them to life, some are being more secretive than others...

    Quote Message

It's top secret at the moment. We're allowed to show snippets of the design but it's going make a big impact when the trail happens in May.

    Amy Sayer, Artist

If you want a peek, some of them are being painted at the Waterside Shopping Centre in the city.

  18. Lincoln waste plant consultation under waypublished at 13:09 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2017

    Alex Rhodes
    BBC Lincolnshire Live

The company behind plans for a new waste plant in Lincoln is meeting with local residents.

Veolia is holding consultation sessions about its proposed development for Long Leys Road.

The firm says it's a good alternative to sending waste to landfill.

But campaigners such as Chris Taylor, say it's too close to homes:

    Quote Message

We think, quite simply, it's the wrong application, for the wrong development, for the wrong site. Veolia know of alternative sites and the city have shown them these sites. They should look there rather than build this in the middle of an urban village environment."

    Chris Taylor, Campaigner
