  7. Row over scrapping some of Lincolnshire's councils continuespublished at 16:50 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2017

    Sharon Edwards
    Political Reporter, BBC Radio Lincolnshire

A long running dispute over whether to scrap some of Lincolnshire's councils has seen fresh clashes today.

    council meeting

The authority has agreed to hold a consultation into whether there's public approval for the idea of combining some district councils with the county council.

But plans for a formal referendum will not go ahead, despite County Council leader Martin Hill promising one earlier this year.

Cllr Hill argues that the changes could save millions of pounds.

John Hough, leader of the opposition called the idea an "empty proposition".

    Quote Message

They [the districts and county council] should have a proper discussion about what's possible and what isn't possible

John Hough, Leader of the Opposition

  8. Bird flu rules 'too complicated'published at 16:23 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2017

    Harry Parkhill
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

As we mentioned earlier, some of the rules over protecting poultry from Bird flu nationally are being relaxed.

But many farmers here in Lincolnshire are unaffected by those changes.

They will still have to keep birds under cover.

Andy Guy from the National Farmers Union says restrictions are so complicated, that farmers are playing it safe with precautions:

    Harry Parkhill
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

More on this story we heard about earlier.

It seems that a rather unusual tool was used to attempt to smash the window of lorry which turned over in high winds.

    PROSTHETIC LEG

Stuart Tweedale helped save a driver from his lorry which tipped over in Storm Doris.

It turns out that another motorist, Craig Nairn, cracked the window with his leg before finishing the job with a hammer from the boot of his car.

The pair (pictured) then pulled the driver to safety from the lorry, which had been leaking diesel.

  15. Bird flu risk continues for Lincolnshire farmerspublished at 13:35 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2017

    Harry Parkhill
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

New measures relaxing the rules put in place to protect against the spread of Avian Flu won't affect Lincolnshire's farmers.

They are being told their poultry is still at risk of the disease, so must still keep birds inside or under cover.

Some farmers across the UK are being allowed to let their free range birds out.

Lincolnshire's farmers were originally told the restrictions would end next week.

Some flocks' free range status could be at risk because of the length of time the birds have been enclosed.

But the Department for Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) says producers in higher risk areas can still market eggs as free range if they use netting and meet other criteria.

    Quote Message

Effective disease control will always be our priority"

    Nigel Gibbens, Chief Veterinary Officer

  16. Thousands more women take up sport in Lincolnshirepublished at 12:46 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2017

    Nicola Gilroy
    Presenter - BBC Radio Lincolnshire

Six and a half thousand more women took part in sports in the county last year, according to Sport England.

They say the increase (from 83,500 in 2015 to 90,000 in 2016) is credited to the "This Girl Can" campaign.

It has been backed by Olympic Gold Medallist Shona McCallin (pictured), who's from Lincolnshire.

She says sport can help in all aspects of your life:

    Quote Message

A lot of businesses are recruiting sports people because of ability to work in teams, clear communication skills and a real drive to succeed"
