    A senior doctor says the maternity service in Lincolnshire is stretched, and at times "unable to cope".

    Dr Sudhakar Rao, a consultant paediatrician at Lincoln, says his team is stretched to dangerous levels at times.

    On some occasions there have been only three doctors on a ward which should have had eight.

    The comments came during our  debate about the future of healthcare in the county

    Campaigners criticised proposals to centralise maternity services in Lincoln.

    A donkey sanctuary in Lincolnshire says it has almost run out of money to care for its animals.

    Radcliffe Donkey Sanctuary, external in Huttoft (near Alford) looks after 44 animals but bills are crippling the service.

    Vet bills for some of the elderly donkeys can run into the thousands of pounds.  

    Mark Hughes from the sanctuary says "things are very tight; we don't really have any money for contingencies".

    Council tax increases of about £45 are expected to be voted through by Lincolnshire County Council today.

    The council will vote on whether to agree to a rise of just under 4%, which equates to £45 on a Band D property.

    The council say half of that money would be dedicated to adult social care.

    It also said that it's already had to dip into its savings to counter government cuts.

    It seems the fallout from Storm Doris continues...

    A driver whose lorry turned on its side during yesterday's gales was "saved" by the deputy police and crime commissioner yesterday.

    Stuart Tweedale happened to be passing when he came across the lorry on its side with diesel leaking out.

    He and a friend smashed the windscreen and dragged out the driver who was said to be "a little shaken" but uninjured.

    A burst water main near Skegness has led to parts of the A158 being closed.

    The road is closed between Lincoln Road and Middlemarsh Road.

    A diversion is in place, and it's causing delays to bus services in the area.

    A man who climbed on a moving train in Lincolnshire to dodge fares has been sentenced.

    James Webster, from Gainsborough, has been given a 12-month community order and a three-month curfew. 

    Lincoln Magistrates' Court heard that the 38-year-old was drunk at the time.

    Police arrived and had to chase Webster down the tracks  (pictured) towards the University of Lincoln to arrest him.

    Twenty-two services were affected and two trains cancelled because of the incident.

    Campaigners fighting to save Grimsby ice rink will find out later if it has a future.

    North East Lincolnshire Council says the 40-year-old arena is too expensive to run and will make the final decision tonight on whether to close it.

    Campaigners are planning a protest on the steps of Grimsby town hall later.

  14. Brighton fan banned for three years after antics at Lincoln game published at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2017

    A Brighton fan who jumped on to the pitch side while celebrating his team's goal in their FA Cup tie at Lincoln has been given a three-year football banning order.

    Matthew Clayton, 30, of Dingley Road, Rustington, climbed over the boundary wall at Sincil Bank and ran behind the Lincoln net seconds after Richie Towell put the Seagulls ahead midway through the first half of the fourth round tie.

    He admitted breaching the Football Offences Act today at Lincoln Magistrates' Court and was fined £350 with £85 costs and a £35 victim surcharge on top of the ban.

    A Lincolnshire business says it's looking to expand because more people are buying electric cars.

    Rolec, based near Boston, employs about 100 people and is involved in manufacturing the charging points which drivers of electric cars hook their vehicles up to.

  20. Man suffers head injuries in Cleethorpes assaultpublished at 16:39 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2017

    A 21-year-old man suffered head injuries during an assault in Cleethorpes yesterday.

    The attack took place on Brereton Avenue at about 18:00 on Wednesday.

    Three men, aged 19, 22 and 27, have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, while a fourth man is in custody on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm.

    Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
