A Labour spokeswoman said: "We do not comment on staffing matters."

Mr Prescott has emerged as a key member of Mr Corbyn's team, reportedly helping to write his speeches and preparing him to face Theresa May at Prime Minister's Questions.

He stood as the Labour candidate in Gainsborough in the 2015 election, but lost to sitting Conservative MP Sir Edward Leigh.

He also failed to gain the nomination as the party's candidate in Hull West and Hessle, earlier this year after former home secretary Alan Johnson announced he was standing down in June's election.

The town was given Portas Pilot status by the shopping expert Mary Portas along with £100,000 to help with regeneration.

But figures obtained by the BBC show there's been a rise in the town's vacancy rate compared with five years ago- it now stands at nearly 23% - almost double the national average.

    Armed police officers

Lincolnshire Police say the decision is not based on any emerging threat or intelligence.

Certain roads will also be blocked off in key locations as part of wider security measures.

Last year the four-day event attracted more than 260,000 visitors.

    Quote Message

We will have officers at the market, some of whom will be armed as they often are at events as large as this one... The most important thing is that the market is a safe and enjoyable event for all, as it is every year"

  6. Grantham MP vows to take A&E fight to Commonspublished at 08:50 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2017

    Lizzie Musham
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

Following the news that a decision over whether to reopen Grantham A&E overnight will now be deferred until next month the town's MP says he'll raise the matter in the House of Commons.

    Nick Boles

NHS Improvement wants to carry out an independent review despite there being enough doctors now available to staff the unit 24 hours a day.

The United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust says it needs to ensure levels can be maintained going forward.

But Grantham MP Nick Boles says it's not good enough:

    Quote Message

The idea that another month is going to tell them anything that they don't already know is just ludicrous and I think that NHS Improvement is just trying to kick the can down the road in the hope of staving off the reopening and I think that's outrageous."

Nick Boles, MP Grantham and Stamford

  13. Lincolnshire verging on national successpublished at 17:36 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2017

It's being claimed that a scheme which uses grass cut from roadside verges to generate electricity has got interest from councils around the country.

    grass

Lincolnshire County Council is collecting the grass it cuts and putting it in anaerobic digesters to generate electricity.

The electricity generated is sold to the national grid, helping to cover the cost of cutting the grass.

The practice is commonly used in Northern France, and while the council's portfolio holder for highways, Councillor Richard Davies says there have been "some teething troubles", other councils have expressed interest.

One additional benefit is that collecting the clippings means that grass grows slower than when the clippings are left to fertilise the soil on the verges.

The scheme is halfway through a two year pilot in Lincolnshire

No-one was hurt when a 92 year-old client who was on her way to an appointment drove through the window.

Wendy Cassidy, the owner of Cuttin' Crew hair salon says her staff had to run out of the path of the vehicle, which ploughed through the salon's waiting area.

It's thought that the driver may have accidentally accelerated when manoeuvering the vehicle.

She says the woman was trapped inside the vehicle by the broken glass but, although shaken, was otherwise unhurt.

Wendy praised another hairdresser in the town who offered her space in her salon for Wendy and her colleagues until they can return to their shop.

    Quote Message

We're all shocked. We just thank God there was nobody sat waiting in the reception area.... Luckily she was absolutely fine, just very shaken. For 92 she was amazing.

  19. Grantham A&E: MP slams decision delaypublished at 15:27 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2017

    Alex Rhodes
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

Campaigners and politicans have been reacting to the news that no decision will be made on whether to reopen Grantham Hospital until next month.

The MP for Grantham and Stamford, Nick Boles has called for the service to reopen. His reaction has been to say that today's decision is legally dubious and morally indefensible.

He says he will be raising the matter in the House of Commons at the earliest opportunity.

Melissa Darcey from the campaign group, Fighting 4 Grantham Hospital says it's frustrating:

    Quote Message

I am aware that staff rotas have been made on the assumption that A&E will open in mid-December so I guess it's a case of waiting... but yet again, it's leaving us without care in Grantham

Melissa Darcey, Fighting 4 Grantham Hospital

Meanwhile, Charmaine Morgan from SOS Grantham Hospital says it's a disappointment:

    Quote Message

To us, it looks like they're just stalling for at least another month."

    Charmaine Morgan, SOS Grantham Hospital

    The entrance of Grantham A&E

The decision now won't be made until a staffing review is carried out by NHS Improvement.

The Chief Executive of United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) ,Jan Sobieraj says this is to make sure that staffing levels are sustainable:

    Quote Message

That's the role of this independent review; to make sure those levels are correct, and to make sure that the staffing levels we're proposing are safe, not just for one or two weeks, but on a more sustainable basis."

    Jan Sobieraj, ULHT Chief Executive

ULHT Medical Director Dr Neil Hepburn says he can understand that frustration, but although he says the trust now has enough doctors, more needs to be done to secure services going forward:

    Quote Message

Although there are 22 doctors, seven of them are locums who could leave at any time, which means it would be a fragile service."

Dr Neil Hepburn, ULHT Medical Director

In recognition of its "special historic interest", the site has now become Grade II registered, providing further protections for the area for future generations.

The foreshore, which also includes the well-known sunken gardens, bowling greens, and boating lake were designed by the town's surveyor, Rowland Jenkins.

It's said that when he came to the town in 1912, the only attractions in Skegness were a junk shop, a spiral railway and an old ship on the beach.

Over the course of 40 years, he helped transform the town into a popular holiday resort with many of his developments still attracting visitors today.
