    Building just a few affordable homes for young families in rural areas could preserve the life of England's towns and villages.

    That's according to a report by the National Housing Federation.

    Figures show over the past five years more than 50 village schools have been lost and pubs have been closing at a rate of seven a week.

  3. ‘Cancel Lincoln reindeer parade’, plead animal rights activistspublished at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2017

    Organisers of the Lincoln Reindeer Parade are facing pleas from animal rights campaigners to halt the annual event, external at St Marks shopping centre.

    Animal Aid has made a stand against the Christmas event, which is due to take place at the shopping centre on 23 November.

    Live reindeer will greet visitors from a paddock in the square before a parade through the city streets in the evening.

    Animal Aid has written to the organisers of the event, arguing their are animal welfare issues involved in using reindeer in this way.

    A 13-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of a blade and an air rifle with intent to cause fear at University Academy Holbeach.

    No one was injured.

    Lincolnshire Police is asking for your help identifying people following two thefts in Louth.

    At All Things Scented store on Eastgate two large candles were taken from the window display.

    It happened on Saturday 4 November and the police would like to identify this woman (pictured below).

  6. 12-hour mission for RNLI Skegnesspublished at 15:38 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2017

    The RNLI at Skegness has shared footage of a double rescue off the Lincolnshire coast, external.

    In a 12-hour mission the lifeboat crew were first called out at 01:00 on Friday to a yacht that had got into difficulty.

    Then a small motor boat that had gone out to find the yacht also needed help.

    No-one was hurt - the boats were towed into Boston.

  7. Armed robber jailed for four yearspublished at 15:11 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2017

    A man's been jailed after two armed robberies at petrol stations in Lincolnshire.

    Today Lincoln Crown Court heard Matthew Wood staged the two raids within three days of each other in September.

    In both incidents the 22-year-old threatened staff with a knife and demanded cash.

    In the first robbery, Wood, of Barrowby Road, Grantham, targeted the Jet service station on Manthorpe Road in Grantham, getting away with £110.

    In the second raid - at the BP service station in the town's Bridge End Road - he took £43.

    Sentencing him to four years in prison for robbery, the judge said it was difficult to imagine the terror he had caused.

    An investigation is under way at a house in Grimsby after a woman was found injured earlier this morning.

    Officers were called to Edward Street just after 06:00.

    A 67-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

    A tent is currently in position outside of the property and Humberside Police have confirmed they will be speaking to people in the area.

  14. A1 death crash pair remanded in custody by judgepublished at 12:17 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2017

    Two people have appeared in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a lorry crash near Grantham in which two men died.

    Irina Ivanova Elenkova and Kostadin Ivanov Tanev, both Bulgarian, are alleged to have caused a collision on the A1 in the early hours of October 11.

    Both were reported to have been travelling in a lorry at the time of the incident, which happened in Colsterworth.

    Elenkova, 36, of no fixed address, was not required to enter a plea during the 25-minute hearing via video-link from HMP Peterborough.

    Tanev, 41, of no fixed address, also did not enter a plea during his short hearing from HMP Lincoln.

    At Lincoln Crown Court today Judge John Pini QC remanded both back into custody until a plea hearing on January 12.

    Both have been given a provisional trial date of March 19 next year.

    Lincolnshire Police has praised the public's patience after a lorry broke down on Lindum Hill in Lincoln.

    It caused major hold-ups in the city during this morning's rush hour.

    They're walking the 147 miles of the Viking Way over seven days with the aim to raise £10,000.

    There are concerns for the future of community transport services for disabled and elderly people in Lincolnshire

    The government's considering changes to services like Lincoln Dial a Ride - including professional licenses which could mean an increase in costs - and volunteer drivers needing training and qualifications.

    Jason and Penny Curtis can't live together because of their disabilities and use dial-a-ride to see each other.

    They say they'd be lost without it.

    A public consultation is being held. The Department for Transport says it wants as many providers as possible to retain services.

    Staff at St Faith's infant school in Lincoln say the pupils are feeling the benefits of their Health Mentor.

    Since January it's had support from the Evolve - a social impact charity.

    The role focuses on supporting the physical and mental well-being of the pupils through breakfast and after school clubs, mentoring sessions and nuture groups.
