The company, which provides water services across Lincolnshire, says it will form a coalition of businesses and authorities to tackle the problem.

    Quote Message

The scope of this taskforce goes beyond what people might traditionally think of as being the responsibility of a water company, but it’s important to our customers and the right thing to do. Saying it’s difficult is not good enough and we can’t do this alone, which is why we want to bring the right people together to better understand and tackle the problem from beginning to end."

Lincolnshire County Council says the fire was caused by "illegal storage of waste" spontaneously combusting because of the "long period of storage, the quantity and the nature of the wastes".

The Environment Agency and Lincolnshire County Council have welcomed the prosecution of Grantham-based MidUK Recycling Limited.

    Quote Message

The residents of Lincolnshire should not have to pay for emergency services attending the consequences of waste crime and I am pleased that we have fully recovered all these costs.

  5. 'Pioneering project' for planning rules changepublished at 09:32 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

Horncastle Town Council is to be given powers to decide on minor planning applications as part of a year-long pilot scheme.

East Lindsey District Council, which usually makes the decisions, is giving more power to locally elected people rather than letting council officers make decisions.

Town councillors will make decisions on household renovations, extensions and change of use applications.

District councillor Tom Ashton says it's an exciting step for local democracy.

    Quote Message

This is a pioneering project to bring planning decision making down to the most local level, we often hear from parishes and from people that they want a greater role in greater decision making in planning that affects their local area.

  10. Comedy festival criticised for lack of female comicspublished at 08:03 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

Lincoln's comedy festival has been accused of having too few female comics in the line-up.

    festivalImage source, Comedy Feast

The festival (pictured) which begins today has more than 20 comedians taking part, but only three acts are female.

Jessica Fostekew, who is performing on Saturday night at Lincoln Castle, says that although progress towards equality is being made "it's not good enough" that comedy line ups are so male dominated.

    Quote Message

There's a lot to be done but there's a better climate than there's ever been before, and it's a really really positive place to work at the moment for women in terms of whow supported you feel by the other women doing it.

    Jessica Fostekew, Comedian

The festival's organisers say that "equality, and not just in terms of gender, is incredibly important" to them.

They say they" understand that for equality to be achieved the world needs more female role models" but despite trying to book more female acts touring schedules didn't allow it.

People have been giving us their reaction to the news that House of Fraser plans to close its Hull, Grimsby and Lincoln stores.

Kathleen Beanland, from Hull says there won't be "a real lot to go to" apart from major shopping centres and retail parks on the outskirts of the city:

    Kathleen Beanland
    Quote Message

We're losing so many stores now because of all this online shopping. I like to come into a store, have a look round and see what I can buy. I think it's going to affect the city because it's one of our oldest stores. It's been here since I've been a child and I'm 67 now so I'm really gutted."

    Kathleen Beanland

Alan and Judith Carter from Barton-upon-Humber were surprised by news of the closures:

    Alan and Judith Carter
    Quote Message

Really shocked to see House of Fraser closing. Didn't think it would be this one. We thought the Grimsby one yeah because that's smaller but thought this one would've survived... we don't come very often."

    Judith Carter, Barton-upon-Humber

    Quote Message

Even though there's hardly anyone in it, it's a bit of a prestigious store for the centre of town. Years ago it used to be busy like every other shop before the days of internet shopping and eveything else. Time moves on and things have to change whether it's good or bad."

    Alan Carter, Barton-upon-Humber

Jack Mennell who works at Bronx, an independent clothing shop opposite House of Fraser in Hull, is more positive and thinks House of Fraser customers may come to their shop:

    Jack Mennell
    Quote Message

Hopefully they'll have some plans in place when they leave so we'll still get a good feed of people walking through the city centre."

    Jack Mennell, Hull

Javar Mubarak and Khadija Elmami live in Hull and the couple think it's bad news:

    Javar Mubarak and Khadija Elmami
    Quote Message

A lot of my clothes are from here. I think it's the best shop in Hull. If it closes then I will just shop online."
