    A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a suspected stabbing in a supermarket car park.

    Andrew Mayes, 36, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody by Grimsby magistrates.

    He is due to appear at Hull Crown Court next month.

    He's also charged with possessing a knife in a public place.

    An actor has had a housing development named after him in his hometown of Gainsborough.

    John Alderton was born in Gainsborough in 1940 and went on to star in Upstairs, Downstairs and Please Sir.

    Younger readers might know him as the narrator of Fireman Sam.

    Alderton Chase is expected to be complete in early spring.

    The Lincoln City, external chairman Bob Dorrian is to step down.

    During his eight years in charge, the club have had a relegation, a promotion, a run to the FA Cup Quarter finals and their first Wembley appearance.

    Bob will continue with the club as an Associate Director.

    The board have elected a successor and full details will be announced shortly.

    Former Lincoln City winger Nathan Arnold has retired from professional football to continue work around mental health and for charity.

    The 30-year-old agreed a mutual termination of his contract with the Imps, which had another year to run, and will play part-time at Boston.

    He has openly spoken about his mental health issues in the past, and now he's decided to take a step back from the professional game to do more volunteering:

    The situation faced by passengers using Northern rail services is "totally unacceptable", Downing Street has said.

    Rail passengers are still facing cancellations despite changes to combat major disruption caused by new timetables introduced last month.

    Northern has brought in a temporary timetable that removes 165 train services a day until 29 July.

    However, more than 100 trains were still cancelled or severely delayed.

    A man has died after his car crashed into a fence in the early hours of this morning.

    Emergency services were called to Pinchbeck near Spalding at 00:30.

    The driver, a 49-year-old local man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

  18. 'Months' to get back to normal - Northern rail bosspublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 4 June 2018

    The managing director of rail operator Northern says it could take months for train services to get back to normal.

    The company has introduced an emergency timetable today after hundreds of delays and cancellations over the last two weeks.

    Managing director David Brown has also apologised for the "very poor start" admitting the company has been cancelling "far too many trains" and "inconveniencing far too many people".

    Northern says it is now trying to stabilise things.:
