    Shropshire has been told how much it will get to fix potholes next year.

    The government has been expanding on the annoucement made in the Chancellor's autumn statement that an extra £3bn would be spent on transport and said the A529 in Shropshire would get a portion of the £175m set aside to deal with the nation's most dangerous roads.

    Shropshire Council will also get £1.3m to spend on potholes in the next financial year, slightly more than the £1m it got this year - Telford and Wrekin will get £250,000, up from the £176,000 it received this year.

    There is no news on funding for the proposed link road between the M54 and the M6 Toll road.

    Every year for the last 10 years, Brian Williams from Edgebolton has covered the front of his house and garden in an array of Christmas lights and decorations. 

    He does it to raise money for Hope House, which has helped his grandson. 

    For a number of weeks he's been busy setting everything up, and over the weekend the big switch-on happened.

    A woman was taken to hospital after a fire, north of Oswestry, last night. 

    Firefighters rescued her from the conservatory of a house in the area between Weston Rhyn and the Gledrid roundabout.

    The ink on the paper has only just dried, but Telford & Wrekin have already registered its opposition to the latest NHS blueprint for health in the county.

    The authority says it is unhappy with the financial projections in the Sustainability and Transformation Plan, external and disagrees with its conclusion that hospital services need reconfiguring.

    Council leader, Shaun Davies, said his authority agreed that more resources need to be put into community health services, claiming most people struggle "just to get a GP appointment in the borough".

    UKIP's one-time candidate for the Shrewsbury constituency, Suzanne Evans, has come second in the party's leadership election, collecting 19% of the vote.

    The politician, who still owns a house in the town, has congratulated the winner, Paul Nuttall.

  10. Health plans reaffirm commitment to hospital specialismspublished at 12:06 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2016

    A blueprint for healthcare in the county says one of Shropshire's hospitals should specialise in emergency medicine and the other in planned operations.

    It's not a new idea, but today's NHS Sustainability Transformation Plan, external is another endorsement of the plans put forward by the Future FIt review, which is due to go to public consultation in the new year.

    The plan also proposes a number of measures to allow patients to be seen closer to home, including the idea of having 35,000 outpatient appointments a year carried out via video link.

    Telford Tigers kept up their winning run with a 6-0 drubbing of Swindon Wildcats, but they immediately bid farewell to netminder Ondrej Raszka.

    The English Premier League leaders remain six points clear at the top of the standings, having also beaten Manchester Phoenix 5-2 on Saturday night.
