    The former Market Drayton defender Cohen Bramall has completed his move from Hednesford Town to Arsenal. 

    Bramall trained with the Gunners first team last week and will now work with the Premier League club's Under-23 squad.

    The 20-year-old had been playing part-time, while working full-time at a Bentley car factory and was facing redundancy last month, before being picked up by the Premier League club.

    Councillors have put off making a decision about plans for five shops on the Old Smithfield in Bridgnorth. 

    At a meeting this afternoon, they said they were "minded to refuse" the application, citing concerns about the loss of car-parking and uncertainty about the impact on existing traders.

  4. Shropshire stations among 28 to get new ticket machinespublished at 16:30 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2017

    Four Shropshire train stations without ticket offices now have self-service ticket vending machines, to make travelling a little bit easier.

    London Midland has just finished installing them in 28 stations around the region including Oakengates, Shifnal (pictured below), Cosford and Albrighton.

    The machines, some of which were installed before Christmas, can also be used to collect tickets bought online.

  7. New air ambulance to be based at Cosfordpublished at 15:19 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2017

    The new £7m helicopter that Midland Air Ambulance is buying will be based at RAF Cosford, the charity says.

    It will replace the older EC135 model (pictured below), which will be moved down to its base at Strensham in Worcestershire, replacing a helicopter which is currently leased.

    The purchase of the larger H145 helicopter (pictured below) will mean the charity will own two helicopters and it says the move will reduce operating costs.

    Work on the site, which also includes a recycling centre, began in 2012 and it has been operating since December 2014.

  13. Smithfield objectors raise a number of concernspublished at 13:46 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2017

    Nearly 7,000 people have signed a petition opposing plans for a new row of shops in Bridgnorth's Smithfield car park.

    Their main concerns are the loss of car parking spaces and the effect on existing shops, but they have also written to Shropshire Council to say they think the proposals are out of keeping with the look of the town and that there isn't a need for the new stores.

    But not everyone in the car park this morning was against the proposals. One man (pictured) came from Highley to say he thought there were enough car parks in the town and that Bridgnorth needed the jobs and more discount chain stores.

    Princess Anne has arrived at the Battlefield recycling centre in Shrewsbury to officially open the waste incinerator there.

    She will also be visiting a local charity called Carers Trust 4 All.

    The developers who want to build a row of shops on Bridgnorth's Smithfield car park say they will bring "more local choice, more shoppers and more local spending for all retailers".

    Somewhere between 160 and 200 protesters are on the car park this morning, ahead of a site visit by Shropshire Councillors.

    Developers Ziran Land also said it had reduced the scale of its plans after public consultation, pointing out the site already has planning consent for a larger shopping complex and fewer parking spaces.

    The police will be making changes to the way their chaplains operate after one of them spoke out over child sex exploitation in Telford.

    Keith Osmund Smith has now been allowed to return to his role after an internal review, which recommended putting police chaplains directly under the supervision of local officers.

    The review also recommended that their job description should be refreshed.

    All police chaplains are voluntary.

  19. Air ambulance charity to buy another helicopterpublished at 12:08 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2017

    The Midlands Air Ambulance charity is buying a new helicopter with the help of £1m from the government.

    The £7m addition will be bigger on the inside than current models, allowing more passengers and extra equipment to be carried.

    The charity owns one helicopter, based at RAF Cosford in Shropshire, and leases two others which are based at Tatenhill airfield in Staffordshire and Strensham Services on the M5 in Worcestershire. 

    The new helicopter will be built over the next 18 months and will become operational in 2018.
