The pair formed a successful partnership while together at Portman Road, scoring 34 goals between them as the Blues reached the play-offs in 2014/15.

"I'm disappointed for Ipswich, but as a good friend I was delighted for Murph," McGoldrick said.

"I don't think many people would turn down Newcastle and you can't knock him for going.

"We've still got good strikers here to cope with his loss and while we haven't been scoring many goals lately, I'm confident we will."

Town are at Sheffield Wednesday at 15:00 on Saturday.

    David McGoldrick

The 28-year-old has suffered a series of setbacks in recent seasons, including ankle ligament damage in August. However, shying away from tough challenges and wrapping his ankle in cotton wool is clearly not on his agenda.

"I don't think you can go into this half-hearted. Once you cross the line and the whistle goes you just have to play the game," McGoldrick said.

"I forget about the injuries when I'm playing. At Newcastle the other week I went up for a header straight away and I landed on the ankle fine.

    "That was a massive boost."

She added: "One of our biggest issues when we speak to people that may be in that area, but also to the local community, is the drug dealing that's going on and their [vulnerable women] presence is because maybe they're assisting in that drug dealing.

"We must get rid of drugs in Ipswich and across Suffolk if we are going to do anything to keep our communities and those families safe, and particularly our young people."

Supt Kerry Cutler said: "It would not be unusual for people to give us information that they had concerns that girls were working as prostitutes on the streets and to say that we don't get that information would be wrong.

"The fact that we react quickly to that information, we always, not just on this occasion, go out and check that information out.

"Quite often we found the women that have been spoken about have been linked to drug dealing. We speak to them, we conduct visits at home and we pass that information straight on to all the support agencies, and that's actually how we keep the street prostitution away from Ipswich"
