Summary

  1. touchdown

Touchdown - Bucs back in frontpublished at 21:24 British Summer Time 7 September

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-20 Atlanta Falcons

I said it was a wild finish in Cleveland... Tampa Bay got the ball back with 2:17 remaining and with just under a minute left, Baker Mayfield produces a 25-yard strike for rookie Emeka Egbuka to claim his second touchdown of the day.

The Bucs fail to add the extra point, though, meaning the Falcons can send it onto overtime with a field goal.

  2. Full-time - Bengals win first opener since 2021published at 21:20 British Summer Time 7 September

FT: Cincinnati Bengals 17-16 Cleveland Browns

The Cincinnati Bengals have been notorious slow starters but they ice this one to claim a hard-fought victory at divisional rivals Cleveland.

The last time the Bengals won their season opener was 2021, when they went all the way to the Super Bowl.

  3. Rodgers wins on Steelers debutpublished at 21:17 British Summer Time 7 September

FT: Pittsburgh Steelers 34-32 New York Jets

You've got to say that's almost the perfect Pittsburgh Steelers debut for Aaron Rodgers, with 244 yards passing and four touchdowns - but most importantly the win.

Coming against the New Yiork Jets will make it even sweeter, where he had a disappointing spell after his much-hyped move to the Big Apple.

Justin Fields played well for the Jets too, but they let the game go when allowing two touchdowns in 50 seconds after fumbling a kick-off.

  4. touchdown

Touchdown - Falconspublished at 21:17 British Summer Time 7 September

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17-20 Atlanta Falcons

Michael Penix Jr. thought he had found Drake London in the end zone but the pass was ruled incomplete.

The Falcons quarterback then goes one better as he scrambles down the middle on 4th & Goal.

He was just short as he lunged for the end zone a few moments ago but this time he reaches for the goal-line and the ball crosses the whitewash a fraction of a second before his knee hits the deck.

It's a great play but poor old Tampa Bay. That drive ended up lasting 18 plays and nine of them were in the Bucs' red zone.

  5. That's the game!published at 21:10 British Summer Time 7 September

Pittsburgh Steelers 34-32 New York Jets

Justin Fields runs forward for the fourth down but just flicks out a pass to Garrett Wilson to seemingly moving the chains, but Jalen Ramsey lowers the boom and delivers a thumping hit that sees the ball pop out.

Aaron Rodgers will win his Steelers debut but the win will be sealed by a typically Steelers play - hard hitting defence.

  6. Fields sacked!published at 21:07 British Summer Time 7 September

Pittsburgh Steelers 34-32 New York Jets

Justin Fields trying to get his Jets team into field goal range but he's sacked by the Steelers and they face a fourth down with just 20 seconds or so left.

  7. Flacco intercepetedpublished at 21:06 British Summer Time 7 September

    Cincinnati Bengals 17-16 Cleveland Browns

This is a wild finish in Cleveland. The Browns again force the Bengals to punt but Joe Flacco's pass with 90 seconds remaining is then tipped and intercepted by Bengals corner DJ Turner.

    Penny for Myles Garrett's thoughts.

  8. field goal

Field goal - Steelerspublished at 21:04 British Summer Time 7 September

Pittsburgh Steelers 34-32 New York Jets

Pittsburgh lead! And it's thanks to a monster 60-yard field gaol from Chris Boswell that sailed over the bar with room to spare.

Aaron Rodgers didn't get all the way but did just enough to creep into range, and now his Steelers lead with 63 seconds left on the clock.

  9. Saints so closepublished at 21:03 British Summer Time 7 September

Arizona Cardinals 20-13 New Orleans Saints

Oh Spencer Rattler was SO close to earning his first win on his sevent Saints start, but his pass into the end zone was ripped out of his receiver's hands before the final play of the game so his pass off the target.

A really fine effort from the Saints but they've just come up short.

  10. Missed field goal - Brownspublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 7 September

    Cincinnati Bengals 17-16 Cleveland Browns

And this is partly why Myles Garrett contemplated leaving Cleveland. He's done his job, forcing the Bengals to go three-and-out almost single-handedly.

But then on the next drive, Browns kicker Andre Szmyt misses a field-goal attempt from 36 yards. That's his second miss of the day having sent a PAT attempt wide earlier.

  11. touchdown

Touchdown - Commanderspublished at 20:59 British Summer Time 7 September

New York Giants 6-21 Washington Commanders

The Commanders are, well, in total command now in Washington thanks to Deebo Samuel producing a typically Deebo Samuel touchdown run from 19 yards out.

Some wondered if Deebo still had it when he made the move from San Francisco - but he's had a big impact tonight with seven catches for 77 yards and this touchdown run showing perfectly just how dangerous he can be.

  12. Postpublished at 20:58 British Summer Time 7 September

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17-13 Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons cut the deficit with a field goal at the end of the third quarter and have just had four shots to take the lead from inside the red zone, but the Bucs' defence stood firm to hold out the Falcons.

On fourth down, quarterback Michael Penix Jr. lunges for the end zone and the ball slips from his grasp a yard short, but he does enough to secure a first down.

  13. Saints on the marchpublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 7 September

Arizona Cardinals 20-13 New Orleans Saints

Spencer Rattler leading the two-minute drill for the Saints as they look to try and pinch this one, or force overtime. New Orleans just make it into the Cardinals half with a minute and 49 left to play.

  14. ouch!

Rodgers sacked!published at 20:54 British Summer Time 7 September

Pittsburgh Steelers 31-32 New York Jets

Aaron Rodgers takes a big hit as he's sacked by a swarming Jets defence as they look to preserve this one-point lead.

It's one of those high-low sacks as a defender hits him in the legs and one on the upper body - not really what you want as a 41-year-old...

  15. field goal

Field goal - Raiderspublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 7 September

Las Vegas Raiders 20-10 New England Patriots

Daniel Carlson slots a 40 yarder to give the Raiders a two-score lead after Peter Carroll almost thought about going for it on fourth down - but he plays safe and takes the lead to 10 points.

    Smart play.

  16. touchdown

Touchdown - Jetspublished at 20:47 British Summer Time 7 September

Pittsburgh Steelers 31-32 New York Jets

Justin Fields keeps it himself on the bootleg that fooled just about everyone in the stadium - including the Pittsburgh Steelers defence.

The Jets go for two but fail with that one, but they're back in front in what's turning out to be a thriller.

  17. Garrett claims back-to-back sackspublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 7 September

    Cincinnati Bengals 17-16 Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns managed to keep hold of Myles Garrett in the off-season after handing him a bumper contract extension.

And the defensive star showed why he earns the big bucks by sacking Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow on back-to-back plays.

He almost made it three on the bounce as Burrow had to dive out of the Bengals' end zone to avoid conceding a safety.

  18. Big blockpublished at 20:42 British Summer Time 7 September

Arizona Cardinals 20-10 New Orleans Saints

The Saints aren't quite done yet, as Bryan Bresee comes up with a huge play to block Chad Ryland's field goal and the Arizona lead stays at 10.

  19. ouch!

Bowers bloe for Raiderspublished at 20:40 British Summer Time 7 September

Las Vegas Raiders 14-10 New England Patriots

Brock Bowers, the record-setting tight end for the Raiders last season as a rookie, was having a great game today with five catches for 103 yards, but he could be out for the rest of this game at least.

He's limped out with a knee injury and is questionable to return. That could be a huge blow if it's serious.

  20. touchdown

Touchdown - Dolphinspublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 7 September

    Miami Dolphins 8-30 Indianapolis Colts

The Dolphins have at least avoided a shutout, with Tua Tagovailoa making an 11-tard touchdown pass to De’Von Achane before converting on the two-point attempt.
