It's taken 29 minutes but we finally have the first touchdown of this year's play-offs.

And what a great time for 'our Nico' to strike.

I jest, unfortunately Nico Collins is no relation. Although if he helps Houston reach the Super Bowl I may reach out and claim I'm a long-lost cousin.

  2. Going deep...published at 23:04 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    LA Chargers 6-7 Houston Texans

Justin Herbert has Ladd McConkey open down the field, but he's bumped about in the pocket and when he does have a dart he overthrows his main target and the chance is missed.

    Ndamukong Suh
Former NFL defensive tackle and 2021 Super Bowl winner on Sky Sports

If the Texans can get off the field without the Chargers scoring on the final posession of the half... they get the ball back to start the second half. Potential for a double score.

Quick throws to the middle of the defence has been Houston's strategy all the way through. Finally it pays off and the Texans have a touchdown.

  5. touchdown

Touchdown - Texans!published at 22:59 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    LA Chargers 6-7 Houston Texans

The first touchdown of the game! Nico Collins catches the pass over the middle and storms into the end zone for a 13-yard score.

An eighth touchdown of the season for Collins and a bullet from CJ Stroud to cap off a monumental drive for the Texans in the context of this game.

Yes, there was a huge slice of luck in there, but to go 99 yards on that 13-play drive against a Chargers defence that had given them absolutely nothing all game is some effort.

  6. All throw todaypublished at 22:59 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    LA Chargers 6-0 Houston Texans

Joe Mixon gets obliterated trying a run up the middle and the ground game looks like a no-go for Houston. This'll be on CJ's arm from here.

  7. Huge play!published at 22:57 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    LA Chargers 6-0 Houston Texans

Here we go... Nico Collins benefits from a slip by a Chargers defensive back to gather a bullet from CJ Stroud over the middle and stride forward towards the 10 yard line of LA.

That's a 37-yard gain and Houston now in business.

Straight off the training ground eh... erm, I think not.

But that fumble kind of worked in CJ Stroud's favour as it forced him to deliver on the hoof.

Maybe that's the shot in the arm the Texans needed.

  9. Two minute warningpublished at 22:55 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    LA Chargers 6-0 Houston Texans

Good time to take a slight breather at the two minute warning after that remarkable CJ Stround play as Houston make a rare visit to the Chargers half of the field.

LA was probably preparing the offence to try and pinch something late on but now Houston may sniff some points.

  10. Wow!published at 22:54 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    LA Chargers 6-0 Houston Texans

What's this!? CJ Stroud fumbles the snap, but reacts quickly by racing back and scooping up the ball, then fires the ball on the run to the centre of the field for Xavier Hutchinson for a huge 34-yard gain and first down.

That came on a third-and-16 as well, so a crucial play, and it was probably going to take a broken play like that to get any joy out of this Chargers defence.

  11. Flagpublished at 22:52 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    LA Chargers 6-0 Houston Texans

A rare tripping penalty on the Houston offence as the lineman was beaten by the pass rush - which basically is the way this entire first half has gone so far.

  12. First downpublished at 22:49 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    LA Chargers 6-0 Houston Texans

CJ Stroud manages to find Nico Collins for a first down, and that releases a lot of stress for the home side.

  13. Grounding?published at 22:48 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

Ooo - that was a close one as CJ Stroud is hurried inside his own end zone and just chucks the ball away. There's no Houston receiver in sight so that could be an intentional ground penalty and a safety, as predicted, but the refs are kind to him and say he was outside the pocket.

    Close call though.

    Jason Bell
Former NFL cornerback on Sky Sports

The Texans defence are stingey, I love the way they're playing, they're getting physical, man-to-man coverage. This is the match-up we talked about. I love the way they play the ball in the air. Sticky coverage all over the place. They are winning on the outside.

  15. Where's the offence?published at 22:46 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

Joey Bosa will be licking his chops with Houston backed up on their own goal line.

  16. Great punt!published at 22:44 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    LA Chargers 6-0 Houston Texans

The punters have had plenty of practice today so there's no surprise JK Scott manages to nail a ripper that takes a Chargers bounce and is downed at the one-yard line.

That's not where CJ Stroud wants to be. I smell a safety coming up....

  17. Postpublished at 22:43 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    LA Chargers 6-0 Houston Texans

Justin Herbert has some velocity in that arm of his, and he lashes a laser to Ladd McConkey for 19 yards and a first down. The rookie wideout looks like the only player on the field who can generate some offence today so expert Herbert to target him whenever he can.

  18. Lassiter can get you turnoverspublished at 22:41 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    LA Chargers 6-0 Houston Texans

    Jason Bell
Former NFL cornerback on Sky Sports

Houston's Kamari Lassiter is a rookie who can play. Press coverage, long arms. Once you get close to the receiver you turn and locate the ball and make a play. When you have corners who can do that you get turnovers.

  19. ouch!

Ouch!published at 22:41 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    LA Chargers 6-0 Houston Texans

Kamari Lassiter comes up and just smashes Derius Davis with a beauty of a tackle - these Houston cornerbacks and jacked up for this game and love the big hits.

  20. 'Offence wins games, defence wins championships'published at 22:37 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    LA Chargers 6-0 Houston Texans

    Ben Collins
    BBC Sport

They say that offence wins games, defence wins championships.

Well, defences are certainly having the better of this one so far. They're making the offences work for every single yard.

    That's play-off football for ya.
