This feels like a big spell. Mohammed Siraj got hit for 31 earlier but he is a good old ball bowler as the day goes on.

Prasidh Krishna was the bowler to take the wicket to fall in this session, that of Zak Crawley. He has been pumped up by that clearly.

Mohammed Siraj is back at the other end.

There's definitely been a change of tactic. It looks to me like India have had a team meeting and are trying to get into Joe Root to see if it'll distract him, instead of being nice to him.

    This is fun.

Prasidh Krishna gets the ball to bounce and take Joe Root high on the bat. The bowler stares Root down. Root does not flinch and stares back.

It's like when a rugby team stares down the All Blacks' haka. Neither wants to make the first move.

Prasidh Krishna is one of those bowlers you wouldn't mind facing. He has a good ball in him but he puts it wide a lot like he's saying, 'go and have a drive'.

  6. Eng 142-2published at 23.4 overs

Now India are appealing for a catch down the leg side. I think it hit Joe Root's pad rather than bat.

Captain and former captain at the crease now, a period of consolidation please. We don't need to try to tonk everything and potentially throw away a controlling position. If England can use the 'Bazball' batting approach like Klopp used his press at Liverpool - by surging periodically, rather than all the time - then we can really exert some pressure and control.

The next ball is a beauty that beats Joe Root's bat.

    Krishna glares.

  9. Eng 142-2published at 23.2 overs

Moahmmed Siraj is the man having a word in Prasidh Krishna's ear between deliveries which is the last thing you need if you've been told to calm down.

The response? A fuller ball that Joe Root drives for four.

    No reaction from Krishna. Yet.

Edged again but along the ground off Ollie Pope's bat.

Kumar Dharmasena and Prasidh Krishna are having another debate as the India bowler removes his cap.

  11. Eng 134-2published at 22.3 overs

Joe Root is smiling now. Prasidh Krishna is cooling off down on the boundary.

The next over could be interesting.

I'm surprised because you never really see Joe Root react like that. The way he approached Prasidh Krishna, you think 'oh, what's happened here?'.

KL Rahul continues to make the case for India.

Joe Root was properly angry at something Krishna said after he hit the ball a little edgily for four.

As ever, Mohammed Siraj is not far away...

More needle! I've not seen Joe Root react like this...

He has a right go back at Prasidh Krishna after the India bowler had a word. Now the umpire is giving the India players a stern talking to.

The Indian bowlers are looking a lot more settled now, especially after the dismissal of Ben Duckett who can be very scary to bowl against.

Ah. It had been coming. Zak Crawley had not been able to get the ball away since lunch and goes for a swiping pull. He had been timing those so well before lunch but this one just loops in the air.

An ugly end to an exciting knock.

All six of Zak Crawley’s dismissals against pace in this series have come against balls that have swung away from him.

Today, however, he has been dominant against outswing, striking at 200 (38 from 19) against it.

I wonder how long until we see Washington Sundar in the attack. Surely Shubman Gill won't wait until the 69th over as he did at Old Trafford, even in these seaming conditions.

India's bowlers have been better since lunch. This is the second over in a row without a boundary.
