India's selection is being exposed here. They need another seamer. Now I've said that, Sundar will now probably come on and rip through England...

  2. Eng 126-1published at 20 overs

I for one have loved the niggle between the sides in this series. It is absolutely what we want to see, regardless of what people tell you.

Prasidh Krishna collects the ball in his follow-through and, despite Zak Crawley being in his crease, throws the ball at the England batter/the stumps.

    Boos from the crowd.

Batting-wise England have been absolutely superb. Zak Crawley has looked so solid.

Bowling-wise, I won't be too critical of India's bowling, but they could've been more consistent with their length and hit the fuller length.

  4. Eng 124-1published at 19 overs

    Crawley 62, Pope 16

Zak Crawley is now leaning on his bat with 62 to his name from 50 balls. It's a big ask from here but remember that Gilbert Jessop record - England's fastest Test century - stands at 76 balls.

Zak Crawley hit 12 fours to reach his fifty, only once has a batter reached 50 with more runs in boundaries - New Zealand's Tim Southee on his debut.

Has this carried? Ollie Pope flashes one through the gully.

    Sai Sudharsan looks disappointed.

What does the replay say...? Oh he definitely got his hands there. Should have been taken.

  9. Eng 110-1published at 17 overs

    Crawley 53, Pope 12

The opening over is one to lower the heart rates from Akash Deep - tidy and on the money with only that opening single coming. India will like that.

Will it be more of the same after lunch?

Akash Deep begins proceedings and Zak Crawley gets a single.

The players will be back out there in a second. The sun is shining right now but there are showers around this afternoon. We may get interruptions.

As it stands this will be an extended session until 15:55 BST to make up for the time lost yesterday.

Thanks for an informative and sensitive tribute to Graham Thorpe - a difficult topic handled really well.

The TMS have been remembering Graham Thorpe during the lunch break, speaking to his family and former team-mates. You'll be able to hear that as a podcast later too.

    A special player.

As a millennial growing up in Bangladesh and falling in love with cricket in the '90s, Graham Thorpe was Mr England in my eyes. The news and circumstances of his death last year hit me unexpectedly hard. I hadn’t realised until then just how deeply he'd left his mark on me. Atherton’s tribute on Sky this morning really struck a chord. Rest in peace, Thorpey.

Lots of you have been in touch about the arm Akash Deep put around Ben Duckett's shoulder after dismissing him which you'll see below.

It seemed to be friendly. I can think of other players who may have reacted differently to Duckett.

It'll be interesting to hear what is said about the incident later. Until then we probably shouldn't make too many judgements.

Faced with tricky conditions, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley attacked like they love to do. Their opening stand of 92 took just 78 balls and appeared to knock India right off their stride.

The ball was flying everywhere with Ben Duckett scooping one six before falling attempting the same shot.

Zak Crawley reached his fifty in only 42 deliveries. He has crunched some of those drives that make you make involuntary noises.

England began the day taking the last four India wickets for just 20 runs. They could not have asked for much more.

Having resumed on 204-6, India were dismissed for 224.

Josh Tongue got the ball rolling by dismissing Karun Nair for 57 and then Gus Atkinson got the wickets his impressive return yesterday deserved. He finished with 5-33 - his fourth Test five-for.

You can't underestimate the brain scrambling, momentum shifting impact Duckett and Crawley can have. Not all runs are made equal.
