Duckett 'hammers' Deep through mid-off for four

Ben Duckett has played second fiddle to Zak Crawley for a couple of overs but he comes back with a bang, dancing down and sending Akash Deep for four.

However, Crawley steals the limelight with back-to-back boundaries to finish the 11th over.

    He has 46 (38), Duckett has 37 (28).

The Bazballers are back. Duckett and Crawley have rattled the Indian bowlers a bit. They would've been thinking 'we're in here' earlier but not now.

England are simply not allowing the Indian bowlers to boss it and there have been some really handsome shots.

  4. Eng 71-0published at 10 overs

Another run-laden over. Seven from it, including a ninth four from the bat of Zak Crawley.

    England's run-rate is above seven.

It is very much England's day so far despite the loss of Chris Woakes.

  6. Eng 64-0published at 9 overs

I was preparing to write about this being a quiet over, with just a single coming off the first four balls after Akash Deep replaced Mohammed Siraj at the Pavilion End.

And then Crawley pulls the penultimate delivery away to the rope.

Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett bring up their 50 partnership from 7 overs.

It is England's fastest opening partnership to reach 50 they have ever had in the first innings of a Test.

  9. Eng 59-0published at 8 overs

Prasidh Krishna replaces Akash Deep and causes Zak Crawley a few early issues. He's lucky not to play onto his stumps as an inside edge goes away to the rope and he follows it up with a wild swing.

However, Crawley quickly gets over those jitters, pouncing on a wide delivery and pummelling it for four. England are cruising.

For the most part, England have put the wildest Bazballing away this summer. Now it's like they are being rewarded at the end of term for good behaviour throughout the school year. Non-uniform day. Games day. Watching Jumanji instead of double maths.

That is expertly played by Ben Duckett. The confidence to play it and it's a startling start.

Duckett ramp over leg slip lands on boundary rope for six

After driving for four down the ground, Zak Crawley breaks his streak of scoring exclusively in boundaries against Mohammed Siraj by running a single.

Ben Duckett finishes the over with a flourish, ramping Siraj for six. The ball plops into the boundary cushion.

It's probably time to gather your Jessops. 76 balls is dear Gilbert's mark to beat for a Test century.

The outfield feels a bit quicker than it did yesterday. Quite a few balls were chased down yesterday.

Ben Duckett has set his stall out to attack. You could get an ugly shot for a dismissal but that's what these two have chosen to do.

India have just dropped a deep point back after those Duckett slams to the fence. Following the ball. Gill should instead be telling Deep to hold his length.

England’s batters have come out and shown their intent today in the first five overs, being ultra aggressive, but riding their luck also.

    Attacked 43% (highest in series)

Left alone 3% (lowest in series)

'Wonderful stroke' - Duckett hits three fours in Deep's over

Boom. Ben Duckett takes a stride down and cuts Akash Deep square for four.

Two balls later, a more conventional cut is dispatched for four more. Deep looks miffed.

And another four, off his pads and eased away.

Duckett has 23 (19), Zak Crawley has 16 (17) and India's lead has already been cut to 184.
