Summary

  1. Knights of the West Indies feature on TMS at lunchpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 19 July

At lunch today, Test Match Special will be running a feature with four West Indies' greats.

Dan Norcross caught up with Sir Richie Richardson, Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Curtly Ambrose and Sir Andy Roberts about numerous things, including how Antigua - an island with fewer than 100,000 people - changed the face of global cricket.

Meanwhile here's Sam Drury to take you through the afternoon session.

  2. West Indies 89-3 at lunchpublished at 26 overs

    Athanaze 5, Hodge 1

Gus Atkinson closes out the session with a maiden to Kavem Hodge, banging down bouncers in the mid-80s.

England walk off the field still 327 runs ahead. The West Indies have batted well for much of their 26 overs, handling some sharp bowling from Atkinson and Wood, but they lost three relatively soft wickets to leave the hosts in command of this Test.

Tried to give the Windies the benefit of the doubt but even on a scorching hot day and the equivalent of a road, they are just not a very good side! And that hurts me to say that as someone who is half West Indian.

  4. WI 89-3published at 25 overs

Time for Kavem Hodge - he gets off strike immediately with a single through backward point.

Athanaze then goes three better in the same area, sending Bashir to the ropes.

Incidentally, replays show Bashir was incredibly close to over-stepping for that McKenzie dismissal.

With shots like that they really need to think what is the necessity?

Seven minutes before lunch he's trying to go over other players, it's ruined a spell of really good batting.

    It's another one for Bashir.

It's a really poor shot and Mckenzie has to drag himself away.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 24.3 overs

    McKenzie c Stokes b Bashir 11 (WI 84-3)

    Oh dear.

Ridiculous shot from McKenzie as we head towards lunch, trying to hoik Bashir over mid-on and not getting hold of the shot. It's an easy catch for Ben Stokes, who barely has to move.

Unnecessary from McKenzie, whose side needed him to dig in and grind down this England lead.

This is what we normally see from McKenzie.

When the field is set the way it is, you have free reign to flash at those.

  9. WI 83-2published at 24 overs

As second fielder in under the lid for England as a silly mid-off goes in.

McKenzie punches Atkinson away for four through the covers, little footwork.

    England's lead sits at 333.

  10. WI 79-2published at 23 overs

McKenzie has the one run from Bashir's over, sending a ball pass short leg.

McKenzie made 0 and 1 at Lord's, Athanaze 23 and 22. Can either make a serious contribution today?

  11. WI 78-2published at 22 overs

England stick in five slips as Alick Athanaze arrives at the crease.

Atkinson fires in yorker for his first delivery, the ball almost bouncing into the stumps from the block shot.

England's short pitch tactics have worked. I suspect he will be disappointed with that send off, a soft dismissal.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 21.3 overs

    Brathwaite c Pope b Atkinson 48 (WI 78-2)

A barrage of short balls accounts for Brathwaite!

All short in this over from Atkinson - he first delivery has Brathwaite stumbling backwards, the second sees the opener ducking under the ball and it goes for a wide, its legitimate follow-up also a riser that's pushed to point.

The third gets the West Indies skipper, he fends off one heading for his head, the ball dropping nicely for Ollie Pope at short leg.

Brathwaite departs just short of his fifty - he'll be disappointed having played well this morning.

  14. WI 77-1published at 21 overs

The West Indies batters work Bashir around for three singles, as they continue to accumulate steadily.

  15. WI 74-1published at 20 overs

Tidy from Brathwaite, taking advantage of a ball on the legs from Atkinson and tucking it away for four through square.

The West Indies opener has looked decent today.

  16. WI 69-1published at 19 overs

Brathwaite moves into the forties, a single to long leg preceded by pulling Bashir for four.

It doesn't feel like a swingy day, it's warm, nice and dry.

If anything, it might reverse swing later on.

  19. WI 64-1published at 18 overs

Short and sweet from Mark Wood, four overs and Gus Atkinson is back.

McKenzie strikes him for four through mid-off, the only scoring shot of the innings.

I look at today and think it's a new dawn for England, they're up against a West Indies team with inexperienced batters, it's a good chance to practise for them.
