I've enjoyed watching these two, very technical.

I like the story that they're not from your typical islands showing there's talent everywhere.

  4. WI 255-3published at 60 overs

The West Indies batters move Stokes around for six runs.

Not going to lie, not much sign of a wicket out there.

  5. WI 249-3published at 59 overs

Bashir beats the bat of Athanaze a couple of times, but fares worse when Hodge returns to the strike, seeing the Dominican heave a rank ball square for four.

Stokes is still just seemingly waiting for something to happen. Most unusual for him considering usually he does something funky- uses a bowler like Root, Brook etc or has a funky field. Currently it just feels as if he is waiting for something to happen.

  7. WI 244-3published at 58 overs

Stokes shows a bit of spark, sending the ball just past the edge of Hodge's bat.

A few more of those required.

He's playing it very nicely, not smashing it but playing really civilised cricket shots.

  9. WI 241-3published at 57 overs

Hodge twice picks up four from Bashir's 21st over, guiding a ball to the third boundary and then sending a ball through point.

He moves to 78, Athanaze is on 72.

  10. WI 233-3published at 56 overs

Eight-ball over from Ben Stokes as he twice over-steps.

    Trying to force a breakthrough?

Very well played, earlier we talked about him coming off his back foot and he timed this one very well.

  12. WI 229-3published at 55 overs

    Struck!

Kavem Hodge takes a couple of steps and belts Shoaib Bashir to the long-off boundary. He's hit it so hard that the umpires have to break to look at the ball.

Hodge then wallops the replacement cherry square for another four.

I felt at Lord's, West Indies didn't find how they wanted to play, here, we've seen them really settle into the game.

    This partnership has been great.

And it's the skipper from the other end.

The West Indies batters exchange a couple of singles at the start of the over, before Stokes delivers four dot balls.

At lunch, Sam failed to fully answer whether or not we should enforce the follow on, if available. Could you please settle the matter.

    Jon, Croydon.

I'm not sure I get much of a say in the matter, Jon! But I can now confidently say that England won't be enforcing the follow-on. Sam

  16. WI 216-3published at 53 overs

Shoaib Bashir gets England under way after tea.

Alick Athanaze turns him fine to take three immediately.

Athanaze and Hodge's partnership is worth 128, how many more can they add?

To Anon at 15.25, you might be right and we get to yearn for what we've lost but there always comes a time when you need to take the stabilisers off and trust that a little bit of adversity will help the next guard grow. Anderson is also on hand to guide them. Let's give them time to play and learn. Just like Stokes will.

A good session for Kavem Hodge and Alick Athanaze though.

Here's some of their best shots.

    Thanks, Sam.

I'll be honest, I hope it plays out a bit better than that session.
