Summary

  1. WI 174-3published at 46.2 overs

Good news, Alick Athanaze has been cleared to continue and we're ready to resume after a short delay.

It's the same story as before the break with England bowling short and Kavem Hodge taking them on with great success.

He goes after Gus Atkinson this time and pulls behind square for four more.

He just got stuck there, the ball was coming at an awkward angle.

That's a nasty one. Mark Wood catches Alick Athanaze flush on the helmet as the Windies left-hander attempted to duck a short ball that followed him.

Wood immediately checked how the batter was, he does seem to be OK but there will rightly be an concussion check.

A couple of balls earlier, we saw a fantastic diving stop from Harry Brook at fine leg to deny Kavem Hodge a boundary.

Joe Root is sick at slip, not having these people basing his catching from one drop.

More short stuff incoming as Gus Atkinson returns but the slip fielders do not.

Kavem Hodge continues to pick the right deliveries to get after and clubs the ball just behind square of the pull for four more.

This West Indies pair are really starting to enjoy themselves.

England will feel they should have broken the stand a couple of overs back but Joe Root put down Kavem Hodge off the bowling of Mark Wood.

This partnership of Athanaze and Hodge is the West Indies' highest of the series, currently at 77 runs.

  9. WI 161-3published at 44 overs

The slips have disappeared now as Mark Wood commits fully to the short-ball tactic.

Kavem Hodge is still going to try to attack when he thinks he can and gets a bit of luck as the ball comes off the glove and just wide of the diving Jamie Smith behind the stumps. Four.

Is it time for Shoaib Bashir to be given a break?

Alick Athanaze, well set now, is trying to get after the young spinner now. The left-hander launches one over mid-on, doesn't time it perfectly but it reaches the boundary after a couple of bounces.

Kavem Hodge then follows up by cracking the ball through square leg for four more.

Joe Root has taken 194 catches in Test cricket, Ian, the vast majority of those at slip. He's dropped a few over the years but that is pretty much par for the course if you field there for as long as Root has.

Not sure what his catching percentage is off the top of my head but if it was that bad, he wouldn't still be at first slip.

I'm sorry but it has to be said, Joe Root is a terrible slip. His catch percentage must be so low. It's a constant feature of his game.

Having been given a life, Kavem Hodge has to sway out of the way of another sharp bouncer from Mark Wood.

The West Indies batter clearly decides he can't just try and survive so takes the attack to Wood by pulling the last ball of the over in front of square for four.

    Oh dear.

The pace of Mark Wood gets into Kavem Hodge as he hangs back when he should have gone forward.

Nicked to first slip but Joe Root shells a fairly regulation slip catch moving to his left.

It went quickly, as you'd expect with Wood bowling, but Root would back himself to take that 19 times out of 20.

Bashir has bowled nicely, he's done better against left-handers though.

  18. WI 140-3published at 41 overs

After a drag-down is thumped out to the man in the deep on the leg side for one, Shoaib Bashir ends with a lovely, flighted delivery to Alick Athanaze.

The left-hander is forward to defend. So far, so good for West Indies since lunch.

Ready to go again and Shoaib Bashir will continue into his 16th over.

The off-spinner has switched to round the wicket to the right-handed Kavem Hodge.

  20. drinks break

Drinks breakpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 19 July

    WI 137-3

England want the ball changed again and it looks like they're going to get their wish.

And, in an unprecedented show of common sense in cricket, the umpires decide this is a good time to take drinks as well.
