This pitch has been really good in terms of the pace and the carry.

There's an element of unpredictability in it.

And indeed here is that wicket.

A big, big one for England.

That England wicket has tightened up WinViz even further - it's right on a knife edge.

I think whilst no one can really say what Rishabh Pant will be like, the one thing I will say is that he's going to play relaxed and enjoy it, he won't focus on a target. That's just how he plays, enjoys himself and has a good time.

That was a horrible swipe from Rishabh Pant, dancing down the pitch and a completely uncontrolled swipe, it could've gone absolutely anywhere.

It's extraordinary how often he gets away with those.

    Massive swipe from Rishabh Pant!

The India vice-captain will never take long to throw caution to the Headingley wind, advancing down the pitch to flail at the leg side.

The ball takes an edge and flies over the cordon for four, but that very well could have been another wicket.

That takes India's lead past 100.

Bumrah is right up there, but Malcolm Marshall the best for me - and I did face him for Middlesex. He could bowl a fast as anyone, but if conditions were not conducive to pace he could ease off and swing it round corners, as well as seam it. Honourable mention to Wasim Akram (whom I didn't face) who could do similar.

Richard Ellis (ex Middx and Glos)

No doubt Jasprit Bumrah is a great fast bowler. But 'the most complete of all time' is a bold claim by Steve Finn. When you compare with greats like Malcolm Marshall, who had every variation, could bowl in successive matches, and was more than a useful batsman, then I don't know that Jasprit is quite up there.

No doubt that in my mind Bumrah is the best at the moment but I can't look past Malcolm Marshall for the best ever, such a quick but skillful bowler.

Chris Woakes takes over at the other end, with Alastair Cook pointing out on Test Match Special that he and Brydon Carse have swapped ends from where they did most of their work previously in this Test.

There's a strong breeze at Headingley today, maybe that has something to do with it.

The psychological feeling that this will have on India is huge, losing your leader early on. That wasn't a great shot from Shubman Gill, the pressure will be felt by the batters now.

Shubman Gill looked so solid in that over, beautiful defensive strokes. It's just grazed the stump but it doesn't matter, that's absolutely the breakthrough that England were after early on.

    That could be massive.

England get a breakthrough with the seventh ball of the day as India captain Shubman Gill chops Brydon Carse's delivery onto the base of his off stump, dislodging a single bail.

Carse screams in delight and wheels away applauding his own effort, while Gill wanders off the field rather slowly.

First blood to the home side - here comes the dangerous Rishabh Pant.

As much as I respect opinions in sport, I have to disagree with Steven on this one. For me Bumrah isn't in the top five. For those who played against him and for many who watched him, Curtly Ambrose in my opinion is the most complete fast bowler ever. Number of wickets at that average, the quality of batsmen he got out. For me he is the best.

India's approach will intrigue me. Shubman Gill is a new captain, it will be interesting to see how they see themselves here. They've played some good cricket, not perfect cricket. but if it does got to day five, the pitch will be doing all sorts.

India can go out there with the mindset of putting England under pressure.

For a young captain like Shubman Gill, I think that he doesn't want to go one down. He wants to allow his young team to go into the next game, not necessarily play defensively but go out and get the runs.

They can't come out too slowly.

I think they are looking at Chris Woakes to step up. A lot of the bowling unit have been suffering with injuries. Hopefully they can be better in this second innings.

Bumrah’s had some indifferent games - not many - but he’s had them. Recency bias is a thing, but what you can say is he’s the best right now. Too early to tell if he’s the most complete fast bowler.

England need their bowling unit to be effective. They can't just rely on Ben Stokes to do all the work, they all need to chip in.
