  1. wicket

WICKET Hutton lbw b Jacks 3published at 18:05 British Summer Time 30 August

    Notts 144-3 v Surrey 525

Night-watchman Brett Hutton is sent out to accompany Freddie McCann through to stumps.

He does that but he cannot make it himself.

From the fourth ball of Will Jacks' final over, he goes back and is trapped in front.

  2. Close of play at Headingleypublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 30 August

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 141-1

Tough day for the bowlers, with only two wickets falling all day.

One was that of Jonny Bairstow for 160 - the other was the sole Middlesex dismissal so far, that of Mark Stoneman for 27.

Since then, Sam Robson and Max Holden have steadied the Middlesex ship with 65 and 39 not out respectively - although they remain 311 short of the follow-on target at stumps.

  3. 50 runs

50 for Wayne Madsenpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 30 August

    Sussex 607-8 v Derbyshire 132-5

Derbyshire certainly haven't had a lot to shout about in this game so well done to Wayne Madsen for reaching a half-century in this rearguard battle.

His partnership with Anuj Dal (30*) is now worth 60 runs and has given the score a semblance of respectability after a particularly difficult start.

  4. Stumps at Tauntonpublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 30 August

    Somerset 492 v Durham 272-6

Plenty of overs bowled today - and, until this last hour and a half, plenty of wickets too.

But Brydon Carse and Ben Raine have led the Durham recovery with their unbroken stand of 102 - and they are within 71 of avoiding the follow-on.

Jack Leach has three wickets for Somerset and they'll want to try and wrap up this innings quickly in the morning.

  5. wicket

    WICKET Finch c Hain b Hannon-Dalby 38published at 18:01 British Summer Time 30 August

    Warwickshire 420 v Kent 156 & 132-3

Ollie Hannon-Dalby is Mr Reliable for Warwickshire and he now has all three Kent wickets to fall.

But there is an element of controversy about it, certainly in Harry Finch's mind.

Hannon-Dalby bangs it in and Finch goes to pull it, with the ball looping to fly slip.

But it appears to come off the batter's shoulder rather than the willow but the appeal is successful and Finch has to go.

  6. Postpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 30 August

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 139-1

Right before the close, Yorkshire deviate from their spin-heavy policy as Jordan Thompson is brought back for another over.

The seamer tests Sam Robson with a yorker that he jabs out, but his next one is loose and driven through midwicket for a rare boundary.

  7. ESSEX ALL OUT FOR 404published at 17:57 British Summer Time 30 August

    Essex 404 v Worcs 266 - Essex lead by 138

    Michael PepperImage source, Rex Features

Amar Virdi wraps up the Essex innings with his third scalp of the match - this time his spin gets the better of Jamie Porter.

Michael Pepper finishes unbeaten on 112 in what could be a match-defining innings.

Now, because of the timing of that wicket, Worcestershire are going to have to come out and face five overs before the close.

  8. 50 runs

50 for Ben Rainepublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 30 August

    Somerset 492 v Durham 271-6

Ben Raine (Durham)Image source, Getty Images

Ben Raine got himself stuck on 49 for a while, but he eventually manages to glean a leg-side single off Archie Vaughan and that takes him to his third 50 of the season.

It's been a superb partnership between Raine and Brydon Carse, who have now added more than 100 and brought Durham within range of their 343 follow-on target.

  9. 400 up for Essexpublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 30 August

    Essex 404-9 v Worcs 266

It's been a fruitful evening session for Essex and in particular Michael Pepper.

At tea, they were fairly level pegging with Worcestershire but they have taken the initiative in the last few hours to put themselves firmly in the driving seat as we approach the close.

  10. wicket

WICKET Hameed b Jacks 68published at 17:55 British Summer Time 30 August

    Notts 140-2 v Surrey 525

And Notts captain Haseeb Hameed will not make it to stumps, either.

It has been a fluent innings but he errs in leaving one from Will Jacks that spins sharply from outside off-stump and knocks over the off-pole.

A great piece of bowling, which we have not said often in this session from Surrey.

  11. wicket

    WICKET Bell-Drummond lbw b Hannon-Dalby 78published at 17:52 British Summer Time 30 August

    Warwickshire 420 v Kent 156 & 123-2

Daniel Bell-Drummond has batted so nicely in this session, but crucially he does not make it to stumps.

Ollie Hannon-Dalby is back into the attack and he pins one into the Kent captain's pads.

It is a touch down leg, but the decision is out despite Bell-Drummond's unhappiness.

It breaks a stand of 116 between him and Harry Finch.

  12. 100 runs

100 for Michael Pepperpublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 30 August

    Essex 398-9 v Worcs 266

Michael Pepper decides to take on Ethan Brookes in that over and he's rewarded with 12 from it - including a six as he accepts the applause for a fine century.

Brookes' figures take a bit of a knock but he's still been the most economical of the visiting bowlers.

  13. wicket

WICKET Cook b Virdi 15published at 17:48 British Summer Time 30 August

    Essex 386-9 v Worcs 266

A beauty from Amar Virdi spells the end of Sam Cook for 15.

It beats Cook all ends up, spinning past his bat as he moves to block and into the stumps.

Cook seemed as shocked as anyone that it had beaten him! He had a little look around for confirmation before heading off.

One more to go for the Pears.

  14. 150 runs

150 up for Red Rosepublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 30 August

    Lancashire 153-6 v Hampshire 389

George Bell guides one past point off James Fuller for four much needed runs.

The Lancashire total ticks past 150 although they are still deepin trouble.

At least, Bell and India all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer are digging in.

  15. Career best for McCannpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 30 August

    Notts 128-1 v Surrey 525

Freddie McCann does have his highest first-class score - albeit in only his second match - as he is now on 57, 10 behind Haseeb Hameed.

This is an excellent response from Notts to being in the field for 150 overs.

After another prompt day for the over rate, we have just five left before stumps.

  16. Postpublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 30 August

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 128-1

With Dom Bess and Dan Moriarty delivering the bulk of the overs this afternoon, we have only three scheduled for the rest of the day.

That'll mean a few extra overs before we finish at 18:00 BST and Middlesex will be desperate to get through those unscathed as they chip away at this huge deficit.

Adam Lyth has been turning his arm over to give the frontline spin duo a bit of a break and has looked tidy so far, conceding nine from his four overs.

  17. 100 runs

100 partnershippublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 30 August

    Warwickshire 420 v Kent 156 & 108-1

Daniel Bell-Drummond has his heart in his mouth for a second as he sweeps aerially at Jacob Bethell.

But the ball is over the head of the tall Ollie Hannon-Dalby, which is no mean feat and the Kent captain adds two more to the total.

It also marks a century stand between him and Harry Finch.

  18. 50 runs

50 for Brydon Carsepublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 30 August

    Somerset 492 v Durham 251-6

Brydon Carse (Durham)Image source, Getty Images

Brydon Carse marks his comeback game with an invaluable half-century from 86 balls.

The all-rounder has given Durham a fighting chance of reaching the follow-on target in this partnership with Ben Raine, which has just earned them a batting bonus point along the way.

  19. 100 runs

100 up for Kentpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 30 August

    Warwickshire 420 v Kent 156 & 100-1

Good fight from Kent here in the Edgbaston evening sunshine.

Daniel Bell-Drummond flicks a ball down to fine leg for the single to push the score up to 100.

He is now 63 not out.

They have reduced the gap to 164 runs and have 16 more overs to bat tonight.

  20. 50 runs

50 for Sam Robsonpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 30 August

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 116-1

Sam Robson (Middlesex)Image source, Rex Features

Sam Robson advances to his half-century by flicking Dan Moriarty down the leg side for four - and that's his third in as many innings after scoring two against Northamptonshire last week.

Robson reaches the landmark from 105 balls and Middlesex would love him to turn this one into a hundred as they reply to this big Yorkshire total.
