Re Sahil @ 13:52: Last year at Old Trafford my mate said "you sort the wine, I'll sort the cheeseboard." He brought half a dozen Babybels and some crackers. The crackers were slightly over a year out of date.

I'm not sure why Ben Stokes has just left the field, but he gave vice-captain Ollie Pope some quite animated instructions before he did.

Sai Sudharsan is such a talented young guy. He scored a lot of runs in the IPL last season.

He never bats on the day before a game.

  5. Ind 110-1published at 37 overs

Three for Sai Sudharsan, turning Brydon Carse through mid-wicket.

The ball beats Chris Woakes' dive, but the England bowler recovers and chases the ball down as it slows in the outfield.

Carse responds by sending a bouncer past Yashavi Jaiswal's head.

Yashasvi Jaiswal brings up his 12th fifty in Test cricket — the most by any batter since his debut in July 2023. Along with five hundreds, he also has the most 50-plus scores in this period

  7. Ind 107-1published at 36 overs

Nicely done by Yashavi Jaiswal, timing his drive past the flailing hand of Chris Woakes and through a vacant mid-off for four.

Woakes won't be happy with that, but he'll have enjoyed the dismissal of KL Rahul - take a look below.

  8. Ind 101-1published at 35 overs

Sai Sudharsan faces the remainder of Brydon Carse's over without scoring.

It's been one of Yashasvi Jaiswal's slower innings. The English bowlers have bowled a little bit different to him but you haven't seen him driving down the ground much.

  11. 50 runs

    Ind 101-1

Yashasvi Jaiswal doesn't have to wait very long for that half-century!

He taps Brydon Carse towards point and runs a single, bringing up his 50 from 96 deliveries.

A direct hit comes in at the keeper's end, but Sudharsan makes it home safely.

Re Sahil @ 13:52: I remember being at Headingley in 2001 (Butcher wizardry innings). A typical Yorkshire local pulled out his lunch. It was a pound of cheddar and a pint of full fat milk. He literally chomped into the block of cheese like it was a sarnie. Amazing.

  13. Ind 100-1published at 34 overs

Sai Sudharsan gets off the mark and brings up India's hundred, working Chris Woakes' ball into the leg side for two.

The only scoring shot of the over, Jaiswal will have to wait for his 50.

You've got to be disciplined as a bowling unit on this pitch, you get no value for anything that's short and wide.

  15. Ind 98-1published at 33 overs

Yashavi Jaiswal gets four after 13 scoreless deliveries since KL Rahul's dismissal.

Brydon Carse offers plenty of width and the India opener guides the ball through third to move to 49.

He almost falls short of a half-century though, playing and missing to the final ball of the over.

Chris Woakes provides the first breakthrough. He has now picked up his 36th wicket at Old Trafford — the joint most for him at a venue, alongside Lord's. His average of 17.6 at this ground is his second-best in England, behind only his 14.4 at Lord's.

  17. Ind 94-1published at 32 overs

A difficult first over for Sai Sudharsan, seeing Chris Woakes' first ball shape away from him and then knocking another delivery awkwardly into the off side.

The fourth ball of the over is a yorker with some late swing and the India number three flounders as he fails to get a bat on it.

    Consecutive maidens for England.
