There was a presentation before play to mark a stand being named after two Lancashire legends, India great Farokh Engineer and legendary West Indies captain Sir Clive Lloyd.

They also rang the five-minute bell together before play. A lovely moment.

    An. Absolute. Jaffa.

The second delivery from Chris Woakes' fourth over swings away through the air to KL Rahul and nips ever so slightly to beat the India opener's defensive prod.

A couple of balls later and Woakes finds more swing but Rahul pierces the gap between gully and point with a square drive four.

That was slightly uppish which prompted cries of 'catch it' from Woakes but there's no fielder within range.

Absolute beauty, wobble seam from around the wicket from Chris Woakes. That was a beauty angling into off stump. It just seamed off the pitch there, so there is something out there.

After watching Jonny Bairstow smash the ball to all corners in the recent T20 Blast game here, I'm a bit worried about India batting first. Let's hope the overhead conditions give the bowlers some help.

  13. Ind 15-0published at 5 overs

The short ball is perhaps not the most effective weapon in Chris Woakes armoury, but he uses it again early in his third over to Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The left-hander India opener effortlessly swats a pull to the boundary for four.

Woakes goes much fuller towards the end of the over and is decidedly more threatening drawing Jaiswal forward to defend on a trickier length.

The final ball of the over, in particular, straightens to beat the edge of Jaiswal's defensive poke. That was a beauty.

Jofra Archer makes it look very easy. Tidy stuff so far. Both bowlers have been pretty much on target.

Fans are still dribbling into Old Trafford as the sun peaks through and some blue sky emerges for the first time today, albeit with some dark clouds trailing behind.

Jofra Archer bounces KL Rahul with the third ball of his second over but it's an easy duck for the India opener.

You get the feeling again that it's going to be a new ball pitch. Those first 20 to 30 overs are going to be crucial to get those wickets or you'll end up with 50 overs of slog.

  17. Ind 10-0published at 3 overs

Chris Woakes digs the penultimate delivery of his second over into the pitch to KL Rahul but it's easy pickings for the India opener.

Rahul swivels on his heels and pulls, slightly across the line, to send the ball scurrying to the boundary for four.

Jofra Archer has that ability to just cruise, cruise, cruise and all of a sudden there's this rocket coming directly for your throat. It's that whip from his shoulder and his wrist that just pings out.
