What a really curious and dare I say ugly piece of cricket.

The batsman obviously wasn't expecting it at all. Stone didn't have to do too much. Remarkable.

  3. dropped catch

Kumara dropped on 1published at 54 overs

    Shambles all-round!

Josh Hull bowls a full toss on leg stump, Lahiru Kumara chips the ball in the air off the leading edge and Olly Stone drops a sitter at fine leg.

That would have been Hull's fourth.

The floodlights are on but the sun is shining. It's a really strange day.

A diving Ollie Pope keeps Lahiru Kumara on strike for Josh Hull. He's bowled all morning here although there was that rain break.

I've been fortunate to see Moeen play for England a few times, and all I can say is "class". With bat, ball and the media.

    Rob, Bedfordshire

My favourite Mo moment was his hat-trick against South Africa. A superb sportsman, providing fantastic drama, and watching the young lad on screen waiting for the DRS on the lbw was television at is very finest.

    Bob, Billingham

I was at Old Trafford last year during the Ashes. Moeen got a standing ovation when he got his 50 and another when he was out shortly after. The crowd knew what a contribution he had made to the series and showed their appreciation and respect. I had a lump in my throat.

Today the ball has swung a lot more than it has in the previous days.

Josh Hull has managed to get the ball to swing.

Another England bowler can't get a five-wicket haul on debut, can they?

Absolutely perfect left armer's lbw dismissal.

    Vishwa lbw b Hull 0 (SL 238-8)

The classic left-armer's dismissal! Josh Hull has three wickets and Vishwa Fernando has to slump off for a duck. He looked to be beaten by the pace and the swing there.

It looked like a pretty good shout though.

    It has to be out.

Mo is a much valued son of Brum and an icon and role model of multiculturalism. He also could play a bit.

    Mike, Birmingham

Always felt Moeen never got the recognition he deserved due to his humility and media downplaying his contributions. Saw him at Edgbaston during the first year of the Hundred and he hit 3 sixes in a row... Hearing the home crowd all chanting "Super... Super-Mo!" actually made me a bit emotional! Was an inspiration to many.

Vishwa Fernando is Sri Lanka's number nine. He averages eight and does not look the most comfortable batter as he gloves a Woakes bouncer from in front of his teeth.

That catch is a relief for Joe Root.

England are now in a much better position.

Mendis is on his way after a good, low catch form Joe Root.

Now England can hope for a large first-innings lead in an oppose to a narrow one.
