This morning news that was very much expected has been confirmed. Moeen Ali has retired from international cricket

The 37-year-old, who retired from Test duty for a second time after last year's Ashes, was left out of England's white-ball squads to play Australia this month as the selectors look to the future.

He retires after 10 years in an England shirt - a period which has included an Ashes victory and two World Cup wins.

There were low moments too, including stepping away from the longest format.

Still he played 68 Tests, 138 one-day internationals and 92 Twenty20s as one of the most important players in the most recent era of English cricket.

Was yesterday England's worst day of the summer? Probably.

They began on 221-3 and were bowled out for 325. They then took five Sri Lanka wickets but leaked runs badly.

The tourists will resume this morning on 211-5, 114 runs behind.

    Game on?

The verdict on day two was that England could do better.

Can they, will they, improve on day three?
