Andy Stone: Generous of Bashir to hold onto that catch off Josh Hull, who shelled a dolly off him yesterday.

Josh Hull had started well. A lovely confidence-booster for him.

Josh Hull banged that one in, he tried a couple of bouncers yesterday that didn't work, but he used that length, bouncing it straight off the surface, surprising Dhananjaya de Silva.

Well done Bashir for that catch, he wasn't expecting that.

Josh Hull strikes! After dropping him last night, England's 20-year-old debutant has dismissed Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva.

It's a bouncer which gets too big on Dhananjaya. He could have left it but top-edges the ball down to fine leg.

  5. Eng 220-5published at 47.4 overs

In a slight worry to England, Gus Atkinson is not on the field this morning because he has a tight quad.

He is being assessed by the England medical staff.

  6. SL 214-5published at 47 overs

Chris Woakes starts with a maiden to Kamindu Mendis at the other end.

Alastair Cook and Michael Vaughan suggested England were trying to be too funky last night. Woakes, as you would expect, has brought some calm to proceedings this morning.

To be honest, I think Josh Hull's action needs a lot of work, but they obviously feel he's the type to learn quickly.

  8. SL 214-5published at 46 overs

    Dhananjaya 64, Kamindu 57

That's a good start from Josh Hull. He threw in a wide or short ball an over yesterday but all six are tidy here.

The crowds ooooos as Dhananjaya de Silva misses the final delivery and Jimmy Anderson applauds from the dressing room.

  9. SL 213-5published at 45.3 overs

England have begun with a more conventional field than what we saw yesterday. Josh Hull is up to 86mph by his third ball.

Young Josh Hull is going to start off on day three for England.

I was impressed at the way Sri Lanka held themselves yesterday.

That partnership are really applying themselves, they've set themselves up with an opportunity to chase England's lead.

It'll be interesting to see how they adapt against England's seam bowlers, they'll have to dig in.

The five-minute bell has just been rung by the wife and daughter of the late Graham Thorpe.

The Oval was Thorpe's home ground.

    Special.

It feels like another good day to bowl.

I think England will be looking at using seam bowlers.

Moeen had daft moments, of course. He'd admit them himself.

But only five men have taken 200 Test wickets and scored 3,000 runs for England.

Ben Stokes, Ian Botham, Andrew Flintoff, Stuart Broad and Moeen Ali.

    Some company...

It's good conditions here today. It's dry but there's bits where the ball will move, it's going to swing.

I don't think the bowling has been great for the conditions so far.

It is dry at The Oval currently but we would do well to avoid more interruptions today.

Moeen was probably the most selfless player to play for England.

He would do anything the team required, probably to the hindrance of his career - he batted from one to eight.

He was picked as a batter but the amount he developed his bowling was amazing. He was also much tougher than people realised. In clutch moments, he was a gutsy cricketer. He was one of the great team-mates.
