    Kamindu c Root b Woakes 64 (SL 233-7)

Chris Woakes gets the big wicket of Kamindu Mendis! It's classic Woakes - full, nibbling a little and taking the edge. Joe Root snaffles the catch at first slip.

England will fancy running through the rest of this batting line-up now.

  2. SL 233-6published at 50 overs

Kamindu Mendis gets a little fortunate here to Josh Hull as he first flicks the ball a few yards short of leg slip and then edges in the air through the gully.

Hull's run-up is long. There's no wonder he's blowing by the end of the over.

I saw Moeen bat at Scarborough in 2018. For the first half hour he couldn’t get bat on ball. By that evening he had a century; by early afternoon the next day it was a double. Undoubtedly the best innings I’ve ever watched. To top it off, he then took 6 wickets in Yorkshire’s second innings. At his best, a marvellous player.

Maybe his first tonne, in *that* game against Sri Lanka in his first series. Came in with England five down and just played like it was nothing. The reason England got close at all that day.

It's still underrated what an important role Moeen Ali played in last year's Ashes. It wasn't Stuart Broad or Chris Woakes who broke the Steve Smith-Travis Head partnership on the final day.

Seeing Moeen score a half century last year at Old Trafford, in an Ashes series he didn't expect, bowling through all those finger troubles highlighted what a selfless player he is. One of my favourite cricketers of all time, and I think a testament to what English cricket should be.

What I liked about Josh Hull's wicket was that he put his body into it and really surprised de Silva with that delivery.

Dhananjaya was in a nice flow and it was the surprise ball that he wasn't ready for.

I've dealt with Moeen a fair bit in the past few years, having been at the past three white-ball World Cups for the BBC. He's always one of the best to deal with.

He tells you what he thinks and never hides.

A brilliant servant to his country and, on his day, one of the most entertaining and destructive batsmen we had. Thank you Mo.

Josh Hull has a second wicket bouncing it straight into the ground.

Bashir just waited and waited taking a straight forward catch.
