Fascinating whether or not to see if Pope wants to continue the experiment.

Is he going to go to a second spinner?

  2. SL 94-1published at 15 overs

There's turn for Bashir out of the footholes but I reckons this will be it.

  3. SL 91-1published at 14.1 overs

Shoaib Bashir's first ball is swept for four. This is surely just a one-over experiment from Pope.

Maybe Sri Lanka are realising that it may be more difficult tomorrow so are going all out now.

Interesting that Joe Root was straight over to Pope when the order came to bowl spin. I wonder if Root was telling him to stick with the seamers, force the close, and come again tomorrow.

  6. Postpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 8 September

Ollie Pope, after a word from Joe Root, is going to turn to Shoaib Bashir. On we go for now.

The umpires are chatting to Ollie Pope. Are they telling him it's spin or nothing?

It's been a wonderful, dynamic innings from him. He's come out with intent and taken the attack on England.

50 for Pathum Nissankapublished at 14 overs

The light has held longer than I expected but the full field is in shadow now. The umpires are just getting a little twitchy.

Josh Hull begins well after drinks but the final ball is driven for four. That takes Pathum Nissanka to a 42-ball half-century.

    Well batted.

I think England over attacked yesterday and once again today it's been too easy. They've just been poor

They're playing in a fashion that says 'oh we'll win anyway'.

England will be thankful for the drinks, not because they are thirsty but because they need to regroup.

  13. SL 81-1published at 13 overs

Need 138 more runs to win

Once again the England fans try to lift their team and Olly Stone at least corrects his line to halt the flow of boundaries.

Drinks come at a good time for England.

    England desperately need a wicket.

Olly Stone comes into the attack but now he is cut for four.

    A bad day.

    Runs are flowing freely here.

    Marvellous from Sri Lanka.

It's all going Sri Lanka's way right now. Twice Josh Hull drifts too wide while dropping too short and on both occasions the batter climbs in.

There have been five boundaries in the past 12 balls and Sri Lanka are going at close to seven runs per over.

This could be a great finish to the English Test match summer. A few more wickets and runs and it’ll be a nailbiter.

  19. SL 63-1published at 11 overs

    Target 219

Chris Woakes' over ends with a third boundary with Kusal Mendis swatting it off his hips. That will surely be Woakes done.

Sri Lanka have to be big favourites now.
