    Poor Ollie.

    Missing!

Another one against Ollie Pope and a good decision by the umpire. I don't blame Pope there.

He hasn't hit it. Is it missing leg? Umpire's call I reckon.

Four more classy runs to Nissanka, right on cue.

  6. SL 17-0published at 3 overs

    Nissanka 15, Karunaratne 2

Pathum Nissanka is good to watch. Small, right-handed, compact, punchy. I like it.

  13. SL 8-0published at 1 over

    Target 219

Pathum Nissanka drives the first boundary before the England fans have finished their rendition of Jerusalem. That was a lovely shot.

This, though, is risky. The right-hander edges wide of the slips and even the mild-mannered Chris Woakes has a word.

Regardless, a good start for Sri Lanka.

  14. SL 0-0published at 0.1 overs

Chris Woakes begins with the ball for England.

This will be a test for Ollie Pope's captaincy.

According to Winviz, Sri Lanka are favourites at 55%. Whichever way you go it's tight.

England break from their huddle as Sri Lanka's batters walk down the steps into evening sunshine.

So Sri Lanka need 219 runs. England need 10 wickets.

    England favourites?

Then, after a slow start, Jamie Smith erupted with a stunning counter-attack of 67.

He hit 52 runs off 18 deliveries before being dismissed, including 20 off one over.

Without his knock England would be in real trouble.

Then Sri Lanka started bowling beautifully. Joe Root, Harry Brook and Chris Woakes all fell in quick succession and England's were seven down with their lead below 150.

  19. Postpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 8 September

That really was a bizarre innings. It started with England handing wickets to Sri Lanka...

It looks like Gus Atkinson is warming up down by the boundary edge. That's a big boost for England. He missed this morning's play because of a tight quad.
