    Yorkshire 333-2 v Glamorgan 221

All change for Glamorgan as Jamie McIlroy and Mason Crane come into the attack as the visitors search for a desperately-needed wicket.

McIlroy's first over costs three singles, not bad in the context of this innings.

Crane's eight overs yesterday went for 77 runs and it's not a great start for the spinner.

Finlay Bean hammers his first ball of the morning square to the rope. Three singles follow.

Joe Root and Finlay Bean have put on 239 for the third wicket.

    Lancs 92 & 147-5 v Kent 261 - trail by 22

A change of bowling for Kent, who bring leg spinner Matt Parkinson into the attack, bowling with one slip.

Balderson drives to long on for one.

Matt Parkinson isn't happy with the ball and Umpire Graham Lloyd inspects. No change.

    Lancs 92 & 145-5 v Kent 261 - trail by 24

George Bell tucks into a leg side ball from Grant Stewart and glances it fine for four runs.

A touch ragged from Nathan Gilchrist, who gifts a couple of no balls in his eighth over of this innings, bowling from the Brian Statham End.

Runs are starting to flow for Lancashire but they cannot afford another wicket in this hour.

  4. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Middlesex 88-2 v Leics 306

To call this a drop seems so so harsh - it would have been a worldie.

Sam Robson gets a tickle to a Scott Currie ball going down legside.

Leicestershire wicketkeeper Ben Cox did superbly to get a glove to it diving at full stretch to his left. It doesn't stick but it saves a certain four.

A scampered single takes Robson to 40.

  5. wicket

WICKET Pujara c Guest b Dupavillon 113published at 11:32 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Derbys 246 v Sussex 393-7

Daryn Dupavillon sends another Sussex batter to the pavilion.

And this is the prize wicket.

Cheteshwar Pujara is forward to block and there's a big gap between bat and body as he nicks the ball through to keeper Brooke Guest. He's gone for an obdurate 113.

    Danny Lamb is in next.

  6. Postpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Lancs 92 & 130-5 v Kent 261 - trail by 39

Lovely shot from George Balderson, who leans into a neat drive off the bowling of Grant Stewart and sends the ball skimming into the long off boundary for four runs.

Then four runs to George Bell, forward and driving Wes Agar into the off side at the other end.

    Lancashire 92 & 126-5 v Kent 261

You open the curtains and finally there is a day that looks like a good one for cricket.

And it's only day 19 of the season for goodness sake!

That's what Lancashire batter Tom Bruce must have been thinking.

Instead here is the New Zealander trudging off, having failed to add to his overnight score with his off-stump castled by Wes Agar.

    Cricket, eh?

  8. 150 runs

150 for Finlay Beanpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Yorkshire 321-2 v Glamorgan 221

Finlay Bean dispatches James Harris to the rope for his 22nd boundary as he reaches 150 for the first time in his first-class cricket.

He's been a touch fortunate this morning, but it's a brilliant knock, made off just 166 balls.

He then is kept to a single by a brilliant piece of fielding by Kiran Carlson and the Yorkshire lead is up to 100.

Joe Root bringing up three figures for the 45th time in a great career.

A superb knock from him once again and I think a mark of the quality of the player - he's done it in exactly 100 balls and including 14 fours, is that it doesn't really feel like much more than a normal innings.

He's just run the ball around, put the bad ball away and there he is on three figures.

Oh what it must be like to be as good as that.

  10. 'A beautiful innings from Joe Root'published at 11:25 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Yorkshire 312-2 v Glamorgan 221

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

It has been a beautiful innings from Joe Root and not appearing to be in any particular hurry even though he's scoring a run a ball.

  11. Postpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Middlesex 84-1 v Leics 306

Middlesex have settled after losing Max Holden to the fifth ball of the day.

Tom Scriven overpitches and Sam Robson cashes in, using the Lord's slope to collect his fifth boundary.

Scriven then strays down the legside and Robson clips him square of the wicket to the rope. He moves to 38.

New man Leus du Plooy has made a quick start, easing to 10 off nine balls.

    Middlesex trail by 222.

  12. wicket

WICKET Carson c Guest b Dupavillon 37published at 11:22 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Derbys 246 v Sussex 384-6

An early wicket for Derbyshire this morning after a bright start from Sussex, who have added 27 runs inside the first half hour of play.

Daryn Dupavillon is the 750th player to represent Derbyshire and he's just drawn Jack Carson into a flashing back foot drive without footwork.

That's an easy catch for the keeper, Brooke Guest.

Now it's time for Fynn Hudson-Prentice to have a bat.

  13. Postpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Lancs 92 & 122-5 v Kent 261

    Wicket maiden for Wes Agar.

George Balderson defends against Grant Stewart on the front foot.

Another maiden over. Tense times for Lancashire.

  14. Postpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Yorkshire 311-2 v Glamorgan 221

Mir Hamza lets out an appeal as he crashes one into Finlay Bean's pads.

    But that's comfortably missing leg.

Bean is yet to get going this morning and really should have gone to his third ball of the day with that drop.

The 22-year-old then pulls Hamza backwards of the gully for a settling boundary.

  15. 100 runs

100 for Joe Rootpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Yorkshire 307-2 v Glamorgan 221

Joe Root drives through the offside, digging one out from James Harris and brings up three figures.

That's a 45th first-class century for the England maestro, off exactly 100 balls. Nice symmetry.

He takes off the helmet and salutes the crowd.

Then four more as Root playsa straight drive back past the bowler as Harris overpitches.

And that's a second batting point for Yorkshire.

  16. wicket

WICKET Bruce b Agar 12published at 11:09 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Lancs 92 & 122-5 v Kent 261

Remember what I said about getting through the first hour?

    Well, Kent have struck early.

Wes Agar comprehensively beats a Tom Bruce forward defensive and rocks back the off stump.

George Bell is in earlier than he might have hoped.

    Lancashire still trail by 47.

  17. Postpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Lancs 92 & 122-4 v Kent 261

Good over from Grant Stewart, bowling a good length with a bit of width outside off.

He straightens up with his last ball, which George Balderson taps defensively into mid wicket. Maiden over.

A sunny Sunday morning here in Manchester and the Red Rose may yet bat their way into calmer waters if they can get through this hour without early losses.

  18. 'It's the perfect batting day'published at 11:08 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Lancs 92 & 122-4 v Kent 261

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

It's the perfect batting day - at least that's what Lancashire will be hoping.

The best conditions of the game so far but the game is kind of teetering in the balance from the home side's point of view.

Kent are in a fabulous position. Lancashire are still trailing and could yet face a second successive innings defeat.

However if they can bat well today then we could be set up for a terrific fourth and final day tomorrow.

It's been just about been the perfect few days for Kent so far.

  19. Postpublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Yorkshire 299-2 v Glamorgan 221

Joe Root starts as he left off last night with a beautiful boundary down the ground off Scott Currie.

He's four away from a ton.

Finlay Bean is then dropped at first slip off Mir Hamza's third ball of the day. It's a straightforward chance. Oh dear, oh dear.

    Maiden

  20. Postpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 5 May 2024

    Lancs 92 & 122-4 v Kent 261

    Three slips in place.

The challenge for Lancashire is to bat deep into today at minimum to get some sort of lead over Kent and transfer back a bit of pressure.

The first runs of the day come off the bat of George Balderson, running a ball from Wes Agar down to third man for three.

Agar is over the wicket to Tom Bruce, who is confidently forward, punching the ball into the off side without clearing the field.

Grant Stewart will bowl the first over from the Anderson End.

Extended sessions of play here today, by the way.

Lunch at 1:10pm. Tea at 4pm.
