Khurram Shahzad continues to be expensive for Worcestershire and, with a misdirected short ball, Ali Orr rather effortlessly flicks the ball off his side back of square for four.

A classy drive from Nick Gubbins, again through the off side, sees him move on to 20 not out.

Nine gone, Hampshire 42-0.

Following an uneventful over from Khurram Shahzad, Tom Taylor is back and is beginning to find swing as well as bounce from around the wicket.

With the second ball in his fourth over, Nick Gubbins comes out of his crease to meet the ball but again plays and misses as the ball goes through to Worcestershire keeper Gareth Roderick.

Another over from Tom Taylor and the final two balls see him just miss the outside edge of Nick Gubbins, who is forced into playing.

Taylor is beginning to find some movement away from the left-hander and has impressed since being put away with the first ball of the day.

The track looks pretty decent.

Hampshire have started well, they've started strong, they capitalised on anything that has been sort of loose but it's also been helped by some poor fielding by Worcestershire.

Nick Gubbins gets on one knee and finds the gap for his second boundary in the over, driving through the off side as he begins to find his rhythm.

Good start for the Hawks, this.

Khurram Shahzad is yet to find a consistent line and length from the other end, and in the first ball of the sixth over, he is dismissed in the off side by Nick Gubbins for the Hampshire captain's first boundary of the day.

When Khurram Shahzad gets his pace right he looks a real handful, it just seems perhaps he tries a bit for extra pace, just gets a bit too full. He's not got it right this morning.

Nick Gubbins is easily the more circumspect of the two batters, he's a key man in this Hampshire side.

Tom Taylor, bowling around the wicket is beginning to find an accurate length, and with the third ball of the over finds the inside edge of Nick Gubbins, who scampers through for a single.

Back-to-back boundaries from Ali Orr sees him race on to 19 not out.

Expensive over for the Pears, 11 off it.

It's a very overcast Trent Bridge but we're all thankful that we're playing at the moment.

Quite how long we're going to play as I look past the pavilion in the distance it doesn't look great, it's closing in but we'll get as much play in as we can.

Hampshire captain Nick Gubbins finally faces his first ball of the innings at the beginning of the third over.

Perhaps anxious to get off the mark, Gubbins looks to take a quick single as the ball goes to Jake Libby at mid off who has a shy at the stumps but misses by a whisker.

If Libby had hit, Gubbins would have been out by a mile for a duck.

You may spot today that Worcestershire have JB33 Foundation on the front of their shirts - this is in tribute to former team-mate Josh Baker who died suddenly aged 20 last year.

Baker made his first-class debut for Worcestershire in 2021 and played 47 games in all formats, taking 70 wickets, and his number 33 shirt has been retired by the club in his memory.

A former England-Under 19 international, Baker died last May in a week in which he was playing in a second XI match against Somerset at Bromsgrove School.

His parents Lisa and Paul set up the JB33 Foundation to carry his legacy and the club posted an emotional video from Baker's father Paul on the eve of the final in which he spoke of the pride he will feel at seeing his son's team-mates play with the charity logo across their chests.

Worcestershire's Khuram Shahzad steams in from the other end and finds the outside edge of Ali Orr with his first ball but it doesn't reach the slip cordon.

Orr then latches on to a slightly over pitched delivery from Shahzad, who is driven down the ground for four.

The lights are already on at a gloomy-looking Trent Bridge.

With the first ball of the match, Hampshire opener Ali Orr puts away a wide delivery from Tom Taylor into the off side for four runs to get off the mark.

Hopefully the rain can stay away but I'm expecting a good game between two form teams and the wicket looks very good, so expecting some big runs.
