There's absolutely no swing this morning - 0.4 degrees, the lowest for any session in the Test.

That was a wobble ball from Atkinson that jagged back off the surface to Chandimal, who was in no position to play the ball.

  3. SL 214-6published at 64 overs

A first maiden of the day for Atkinson, bowling to Chandimal.

He twice strikes the Sri Lankan batter on the pads, but not in a position that's worthy of an appeal.

Well done Jamie Smith for admitting he just didn’t know the law. Thumbs up if you also didn’t know the law!!

  5. SL 214-6published at 63 overs

Chandimal survives a couple of semi-chances, popping the ball just wide of Woakes and then dropping a shot just short of Shoaib Bashir at mid-wicket.

The injured thumb from yesterday causing him a little discomfort?

I reckon Chandimal had nightmares about getting hit by Wood again. He'll be relieved at the news today.

  8. SL 211-6published at 62 overs

Gus Atkinson starts with five dot balls to Dinesh Chandimal, before the Sri Lankan batter flicks a three out to mid-wicket.

It's pretty sunny at Old Trafford by the way - the forecast suggests if there's going to be rain today it's going to be in the next few hours, but no sign of it at the moment.

  10. SL 208-6published at 61 overs

Chris Woakes has the ball first up for England, and he scuds it past Mendis's outside edge.

The Sri Lankan batter picks up his first runs of the day, a drive through cover just about beating the chasing fielder to the ropes.

That takes him past 500 runs in Test cricket, in just his seventh innings.

Right then, the Sri Lankan batters are making their way out onto the field.

Kamindu Mendis is slightly in front, he resumes on 56.

Dinesh Chandimal resumes today on 20, having spent some time on the sidelines earlier in the innings.

He was struck on the hand by a Mark Wood short ball, which led him to retire. But he returned just before the close, and struck the final ball of the day for four.

We've got some news from the England camp this morning.

Pace bowler Mark Wood will not take the field today after sustaining a right thigh muscle injury in the evening session yesterday.

He will continue to be assessed by the side's medical team to determine the full extent of the injury, while England will continue with a four-man attack of Gus Atkinson, Chris Woakes, Matty Potts and Shoaib Bashir.

First thing's first though, let's relive the sporting highlight of day three.

  16. Good morningpublished at 10:30 British Summer Time 24 August

    Hello there.

Sri Lanka resume on day four at Old Trafford on 204-6, a lead of 82. Batters Dinesh Chandimal and Kamindu Mendis look relatively well set, and will fancy their chances of creating a fourth innings target that is at least reasonably challenging for England.

Let's see if they can do it...
