  1. Close!published at 16:43 British Summer Time 3 May

    Essex 206 & 71-2 v Somerset 145

Tom Westley looks to have had a lucky escape there. Jordan Cox has clipped a quick single to point area and Jack Leach has whipped round and thrown down the stumps at the striker's end.

Nigel Llong was square of the wicket and has given it not out but replays suggest that Westley, who was on 14 at the time, had not got his bat behind the line when Leach's throw hits.

  2. 'Pretorius not getting enough swing'published at 16:31 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset 145 v Essex 206 & 71-2

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Migael Pretorius is not getting the ball to go off the surface and he's not actually getting enough swing here this afternoon as he did yesterday.

It may just be the ball, they do vary. Some swing more than others.

Somerset haven't tried to get it changed with suggests it's not that bad. There's been relatively few ball changes in the matches that I've seen so far this season.

  3. Postpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 3 May

    Hampshire 34-1 v Durham 511

Mark Stoneman has a big whoosh at a ball angled across him from Codi Yusuf.

The Durham man has located a nagging line outside off that is clearly tempting the Hampshire opener but ball is winning this battle at the moment.

Yusuf bags a maiden in his first over.

  4. 'Doggett skids the ball through'published at 16:29 British Summer Time 3 May

    Hants 34-1 v Durham 511

    Kevan James

This is my first look at Brendan Doggett and I have to say that he skids the ball through.

He gets lovely shape on the ball.

  5. Tea at Headingleypublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 3 May

    Yorkshire 205 & 152-4 v Warwickshire 253

Typical grit from Yorkshire as they recovered well from the early loss of Dom Bess and needless run out of James Wharton to move themselves into a decent position at tea.

That's thanks to a punchy 40 from Adam Lyth and a much more Joe-Root like innings from Joe Root who has 61.

The England man has produced a half-century chocked with graceful shots and sumptuous timing. Baz and Ben will be delighted.

Harry Brook again looked a bit skittish as the excellent Michael Booth pinned him lbw and with the South African looking like he might strike any ball, the Bears will have hope they can fight their way back.

Yorkshire's lead is 104 but this game is still anyone's.

  6. 100 lead for Yorkshirepublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 3 May

    Yorkshire 205 & 148-4 v Warwickshire 253

A slight scare for Jonny Bairstow a moment ago.

He was hit on the back pad coming hesitantly forward to Olly Hannon-Dalby.

Warwickshire's appeal wasn't full of confidence despite height not looking like the issue.

    Maybe a hint of bat?

Bairstow's examination doesn't end with ODH as Michael Booth nearly nicks him off in his next over.

But he gets a gimme on his legs and collects three runs to take Yorkshire's lead into three figures.

  7. 'More hope than expectation for Somerset'published at 16:09 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset 145 v Essex 206 & 59-2

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Essex have been building slowly and methodically on their more than useful first innings lead of 61, Tom Westley's 12 having so far occupied 62 deliveries.

Somerset have claimed two wickets, of Paul Walter and Dean Elgar, but the pitch seems to be playing fewer tricks than earlier in the game and there's really no indication that the Essex batting is likely to fold in the same way as Somerset's did.

There's more hope than expectation around the County Ground just at present.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 3 May

    Middleton c Drissell b Potts 17 (Hants 17-1 v Durham 511)

A wicket for Matthew Potts which will feel sweet after Fletcha Middleton had taken a bit of a shine to him.

The Hampshire opener is annoyed with himself as that was probably not the most threatening line or length but he plays inside it and edges low to first slip where George Drissell holds on.

  9. Tea at Tauntonpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 3 May

    Essex 206 & 59-2 (lead by 120 runs) v Somerset 145

Essex negotiate a path to the end of this middle session with a bit of damage having lost Paul Walter and Dean Elgar but with a significant lead and eight wickets still up.

Somerset will be reasonably pleased with their bowling with Jack Leach looking dangerous and the pitch offering some seam movement as well but they are trailing badly already and need wickets quick after tea.

  10. Division Two latestpublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 3 May

Logan van Beek celebrates wicketImage source, Getty Images

Leaders Leicestershire have bowled out Northants for 191, giving them a first-innings lead of 113. Logan van Beek finished with 4-47.

Second-placed Derbyshire are up against it at Glamorgan. Replying to 431, they're 113-4.

Batters continue to dominate at Old Trafford. Gloucestershire are 73-1 replying to Lancashire's 450 all out.

Daniel Bell-Drummond is now driving Kent's second innings at Lord's. The number three is up to 69 with his side on 157-2 and leading Middlesex by 48.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 3 May

    Brook lbw b Booth 20 (Yorkshire 205 & 143-4 v Warwickshire 253)

Michael Booth has his man! Harry Brook absolutely plumb.

It's been coming, to be fair. Booth's been all over Brook but he got his reward with a full, straight one, having caused the England man plenty of issues with his seam movement.

Brook tries to whip across it as it thuds into his shins. Cleaning the lot up that was.

Scores of 33 and 20 for Brook in what is likely to be his only first-class game before the Test against Zimbabwe.

    Yorkshire 205 & 140-3 v Warwickshire 253

Michael Booth almost has Harry Brook again.

It's a little short and skids on to Brook as he leans back and pulls it away.

But it's off the splice and loops up before dropping short of mid-on.

Yes, on another day, that may have landed on Mars, but equally it could've just as easily been out.

In the next over from Olly Hannon-Dalby, Brook is more comfortable, cuffing one away through backward point for four.

The 50 partnership is up between the England duo.

  13. Postpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 3 May

    Hampshire 13-0 v Durham 511

After a watchful start Fletcha Middleton has launched three fours off England paceman Matthew Potts, guiding one through cover and two flicks off his legs as the Durham bowler overcompensates.

  14. 'A really good knock from Root'published at 15:57 British Summer Time 3 May

    Yorkshire 205 & 131-3 v Warwickshire 253

    Kevin Howells
    BBC Test Match Special commentator

This has been a really good knock from Joe Root.

Will he looking back at the end of his career thinking about those 104 minutes, 64 balls and eight fours? I'm not so sure he will, but in the context of the game and the fact that this is his first outing this summer - I think he'll be highly delighted as his team will be in his contribution.

  15. Postpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 3 May

    Yorkshire 205 & 131-3 v Warwickshire 253

In contrast to the serenity at Joe Root's end, Harry Brook is having a rockier time against Michael Booth.

The South African seamer has it on a bit of string and has beaten Brook repeatedly outside his off stump.

Booth's getting that pesky combination of both swing and seam and is using both to threaten Brook's edge.

Angle in. Nip away. Hands on head.

for Joe Rootpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 3 May

    Yorkshire 205 & 120-3 v Warwickshire 253

An innings that will delight Joe Root, his Yorkshire team-mates and Brendon McCullum and friends.

It's a been a contrasting knock to his scratchy first-innings with the England man much more comfortable and controlled and happy to flick through his catalogue of shots at will.

He gets to 49 with another perfectly-timed touch through point for four off Ed Barnard before getting to 50 with a drive for a couple two balls later.

It's the 87th half-century and 16th for his county and it's come off 64 balls with eight fours.

He'll know only half the work is done with the chance to get Yorkshire's lead beyond three figures.

    At the moment it's 72.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 3 May

    Crawley lbw b Paterson 68 (Middlesex 238 v Kent 129 & 128-2)

Zak Crawley goes in the same manner as the first innings - lbw to Dane Paterson.

It's been a fine knock from the England opener - 68 off 114 balls - but he'll be disappointed not to go on to three figures.

Kent lead by just 19 and need another partnership.

  18. 'Elgar looked uncertain'published at 15:37 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset 145 v Essex 206 & 45-2

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

He got into a bit of a tangle and rather against the run of play, Dean Elgar's innings comes to a surprise end.

He looks at his bat but at first glance he looked uncertain to go forward or back and ended up playing on.

It's such an important wicket for them to take. It's a big moment because he is someone who is could really occupy the crease and in this situation, on a tough pitch, would have been tailor made for him.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 3 May

    Elgar b Gregory 23 (Somerset 145 v Essex 206 & 45-2)

Big inside edge and Dean Elgar is gone, even though he can't quite understand how that has gone from outside off to his stumps.

The Essex opener was out of line on that shot and it has got an edge possibly on to his pad before going through to the timber.

He's out however it got there and Essex's lead is effectively 106-2.

  20. 100 up for Yorkshirepublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 3 May

    Yorkshire 205 & 108-3 v Warwickshire 253

Yorkshire get to three figures with only three wickets down.

A couple of leg byes got them there - the first triggered a big appeal as Joe Root was rapped coming down the track and trying to flick it across his front pad.

Root gets much more of this next one as he pulls a long hop from Beau Webster through mid-wicket for four.

He's up to 40 and the lead is 60.
