    Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 177-7

Beau Webster has had a swipe across the line and then a fiddle outside off stump in Ben Coad's next over.

The first one came off the toe of the bat as he span towards square-leg with the effort with the ball disappearing through mid-on.

Two balls later, there's a scoop for six over fine leg.

Webster has only just arrived at Warwickshire but he must know how capable Kai Smith is.

There's no need for huge panic. The Bears need Webster to hang around with the deficit only 28.

  2. Postpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset 16-1 v Essex 206

A first boundary of the morning at Taunton and it comes off the edge of Andy Umeed's bat through third man area to the rope.

Umeed has already had a life of sorts on 1, glancing down the leg side and seeing his effort tip the gloves of a diving Michael Pepper.

The Somerset opener has made best use and moved on to six.

  3. 'The wicket is expected to turn'published at 11:14 British Summer Time 3 May

    Hants v Durham 339-5

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

It is a used wicket here, it was used a couple of weeks ago against Somerset.

The expectation is that at some point it will turn. It hasn't done yet but it may do as we go through this match.

    Hannon-Dalby c Bairstow b Hill 5 (Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 163-7)

    Yorkshire get an early one.

George Hill gets one to hold its line into the left-handed OHD and it deflects off the outside edge as he comes forward through to Jonny Bairstow.

He almost had him earlier in the over but a chip from the Bears seamer landed just short of an onrushing mid-on.

    Just two runs added.

Kai Smith is the new man.

  5. Postpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 3 May

    Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 163-6

Ben Coad is right on the money with his first over.

After beating Beau Webster with a beauty he gets one of those 'moral' victories as Webster gives him the charge and gets a thick inside edge that could've gone anywhere but trickles down to fine leg for the first runs of the morning.

He then finishes by turning Webster square with another cracker than just misses the outside edge.

    Looks tough out there.

  6. 'A green pitch under cloudy Headingley skies'published at 11:06 British Summer Time 3 May

    Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 161-6

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

We greet you on day two under cloudy Headingley skies on a green pitch that feel ominous if you are going to be out there with a bat in hand.

  7. Postpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 3 May

    Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 161-6

Huge session under way under cloudier skies than for most of yesterday with the ball in the hand of George Hill.

Game nightwatchman Olly Hannon-Dalby is on strike with three slips in position and the first ball beats him as he prods forward with a degree of uncertainty.

He feels a few on the bat as the over progress and it ends with an excellently-judged leave.

First over done. Maiden in the book.

Marcus Harris resumes on 165 for Lancashire at Old Trafford. They're in a really strong position on 342-5 against Gloucestershire.

It's nip and tuck between leaders Leicestershire and Northants. The visitors begin on 6-0 at Grace Road after Leicestershire made 304.

Glamorgan enjoyed a decent first day against Derbyshire having closed on 336-6 with Colin Ingram 80 not out.

Middlesex are in the driving seat against Kent at Lord's. They restart on 158-4 having skittled Kent for 129.

  11. Clark looks to press advantage after resolute displaypublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 3 May

    Hants v Durham 330-5

Centurion Graham Clark was keen to praise his partners Ollie Robinson and George Drissell for helping pull Durham out of difficulty on day one, the first acute at 82-4 and then less so at 206-5 at the Utilita Bowl against Hampshire.

But his first century of the season was the undoubted foundation of a backs to the wall fightback from the visitors which saw them close on 330-5.

Two partnerships of 124 first with Robinson and then again with Drissell (58*) frustated a Hampshire attack who would have backed themselves several times to have had their feet up before close on day one.

The pitch, the sun and a softening ball were not helpful as the day went on according to Hampshire bowler Kyle Abbott who admitted his side would have liked “a few more poles”.

"We are used to playing here and know what it takes," he added. "Sometimes it takes a little longer and needs a bit of patience. Hopefully we can have a better day tomorrow.”

Clark and Drissell will resume to press on this morning towards a third batting bonus point and maybe even a fourth (they have 17 overs to get another 70 runs).

  12. All to play for at Tauntonpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset 9-1 v Essex 206

A case of honours even at Taunton with neither camp daring to suggest they had their noses in front, or much behind either, at the end of day one.

Essex director of cricket Chris Silverwood praised Somerset's bowling which skittled his side for one big hit over 200 but was far from throwing in towels with Archie Vaughan sent packing late.

“The pitch has done a bit for seam and spin, which has moved the game along. The important thing now is for us to come back and put pressure on Somerset,” he said.

Home seamer Migael Pretorius agreed that the game was finely poised at the end of its opening quarter.

“It’s tough to tell who is ahead because Essex did well to bat through most of the day,” said Pretorius, who likened conditions to playing in his native South Africa. “Although we lost a wicket at the end, we have a strong batting line-up, so things are pretty much even.”

Andy Umeed and nightwatchman Josh Davey resume batting on a day where all remains to play for, particularly bowling points you would think and those for a possible victory.

  13. Yorkshire and Bears eye pole position on pivotal daypublished at 10:51 British Summer Time 3 May

    Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 161-6

Warwickshire's Ethan Bamber celebrates taking the wicket of Yorkshire's George HillImage source, Rex Features

It's a big day ahead for both sides, who know they can shape the outcome of this superbly-poised match in their favour with another strong performance.

On an entertaining pitch, control ebbed and flowed yesterday with neither side able to seize control decisively.

Warwickshire would have been delighted to shoot Yorkshire out for just over 200 with new recruit Ethan Bamber richly deserving his best figures of 5-47 since moving from Middlesex.

Keeping the fanfare around the availability of England duo Joe Root and Harry Brook muted was also key, as Root made just a single before Brook rather gave it away after a playful 33 off 41 balls.

Jonny Bairstow's 47 is the top score of the match so far and someone will have to beat that you feel to take the game by the throat.

It may be Beau Webster. The huge Australia all-rounder biffed his way to 32 at a run a ball but will be worried about running out of partners with the Bears still 44 behind.

Yorkshire's seamers were just as potent as Warwickshire's as they shared the spoils around.

They will be confident they can still secure a first-innings lead and then get their imposing-looking batters - with their obvious international gloss - to put the Bears under real pressure.
