Sophia Smale has kept things pretty tight, as you would expect from a left-arm spinner.

You always look at them as someone who gives control to the fielding captain and she has done that once again. Those aren't bad figures. A good effort from her again.

  2. Brave 145-4published at 90 balls

Freya Kemp follows her twin sixes with another four, hitting Sophia Smale's first ball straight down the ground.

It ricochets off the ankles of the sliding fielder and runs into the ropes.

Four more singles off the rest of the set and Smale is the first Invincibles bowler to complete her 20 deliveries - she's gone for 0-24.

A superb hit from Freya Kemp - as clean and as sweet as it gets!

It was straight out of the middle and a bit of a slog sweep over mid-wicket.

    Brave 137-4published at 85 balls

    Freya Kemp makes amends!

On zero after two balls, she launches Alice Capsey out to long-off, where Phoebe Franklin, who is a few steps in from the boundary, can't hold on to a high catch, seeing the ball break through her fingertips and over the ropes for six.

Kemp follows with six more, banging the ball over mid-wicket.

You really don't want two new batters at the crease together, especially in this format. That's the situation for Southern Brave now though. That was really good fielding from Oval Invincibles because they had the option of throwing at either end.

The more set and dangerous batter is out now, that was smart fielding. Southern Brave have hit a bit of a roadblock here all of a sudden.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 82 balls

Devine run out (Scholfield) 19 (Brave 124-4)

    Oh dear.

Freya Kemp hits the ball to Paige Scholfield in the covers and calls her batting partner through for a single.

Scholfield fires the ball back at the wicketkeeper's stumps and Devine is well short.

After going along so well, Brave face the last 18 balls of the innings with two new batters - Chloe Tryon joins Kemp at the crease.

  7. Brave 123-3published at 80 balls

Freya Kemp in at number five for Southern Brave.

She strikes Wellington's final ball in the covers and doesn't get a run off the shot.

Laura Wolvaardt is so cross with herself. Her area is usually over extra cover and she is one of the best in the world in that region.

She kind of slices it, it wasn't really straight out of the middle of the bat, and she didn't get the elevation that she wanted. Meg Lanning takes a good catch.

  9. wicket

    Wolvaardt c Lanning b Wellington 36 (Brave 123-3)

    Six and out!

Laura Wolvaardt heaves Amanda-Jade Wellington over the long-on ropes but is dismissed from the following ball, smacking straight to Meg Lanning in the covers.

The Brave number three, like Bouchier before her, walks off looking distinctly annoyed at herself.

Laura Wolvaardt is effortless in what she does. She holds her shape so well and her head is very still once she hits the ball.

That just shows her pure class and how experienced she is at only 26 years old.

It is so difficult to keep Sophie Devine quiet. She has so many shot options in her locker.

She is averaging around 41 runs this season with the bat and obviously she has been fabulous with the ball as well.

  12. Brave 115-2published at 75 balls

Sophie Devine gets her second four, cracking Phoebe Franklin's first delivery past deep mid-wicket.

She takes a couple of twos and single from the rest of the set to move to 17 from 12 balls.

A little bit short from Tash Farrant there. Any change in length and these batters are going to maximise on it straightaway by just rocking back on that back foot.

If we look at Oval Invincibles' bowling so far, they have bowled well but they have had phases where they have just eased off the pressure with one bad ball or a slight change in length and line.

  14. Brave 106-2published at 70 balls

Sophie Devine had only faced four balls since coming in - she picks up four from the fifth with a cut through point off Tash Farrant.

Three wides down the leg side and a single bring up the Brave hundred off 67 balls, before Wolvaardt finishes the set by lashing Farrant for another boundary at mid-off.

26 runs off 24 balls is Danni Wyatt-Hodge’s slowest knock in the past three seasons (min. 20 balls faced).

Her previous slowest was 27 off 27 balls in 2023.

I absolutely love that shot from Laura Wolvaardt! Great use of her feet and hands lifting it up and over. She's not tried to hit the ball particularly hard but her timing is impeccable. Her positioning is key there.

  17. Brave 92-2published at 65 balls

There's a four for Laura Wolvaardt - hitting Sophia Smale for another boundary over extra cover.

Three singles follow as Brave move towards the hundred mark.

  18. Brave 85-2published at 60 balls

Amanda-Jade Wellington sends down a tidy set, just four runs from it.

Laura Wolvaardt got a four over extra cover from Franklin's last set, but can only take two and a single through backward square off these five balls from the experienced Invincibles spinner.

Phoebe Franklin was going pace-off in that set of five. She was bowling her deliveries at around 48mph, which for a seamer is pretty slow considering Sophia Smale is bowling spin at the other end at the same pace.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge will be disappointed but she did get them off to an OK start. It's just whether they can kick on now, but they're going to have to rebuild now.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 55 balls

    Wyatt-Hodge b Franklin 26 (Brave 81-2)

    Bowled 'er!

Danni Wyatt-Hodge tries an ugly hack across the line to seamer Phoebe Franklin's pace-off delivery and sees her stumps splattered.

Both openers now back in the dug-out, but who's this?

    Oh, it's just Sophie Devine...
