There are some fantastic characters out there, some quite resilient and fiery match-winners that will all want to make their stamp on the game. Whether that's Marizanne Kapp or Amanda-Jade Wellington, they all want to be the one to change this game.

Southern Brave also have those characters, which is what every captain wants really.

  3. Brave 76-1published at 50 balls

    Woops.

Marizanne Kapp's delivery breaks past Laura Wolvaardt, down the leg side and past keeper Lauren Winfield-Hill to run away for five wides.

Kapp closes her set with two dot balls as Brave reach 76 at the half way stage.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Maia Bouchier’s 59-run opening stand today is Southern Brave’s first 50+ partnership in 10 games. The last time their openers put together a 50+ stand was back on August 1, 2024.

Oval Invincibles are just going to change the field here because they had extra cover and three out on the leg side for Danni Wyatt-Hodge, but they're going to bring up square leg and move long-off back a bit now.

  6. Brave 69-1published at 45 balls

Four more for Laura Wolvaardt, striking Sophia Smale through the covers.

    We're going to have a strategic time-out.

  7. Brave 63-1published at 40 balls

Here comes South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt for Southern Brave.

She gets four from her second delivery, edging through an empty cordon.

Prior to Bouchier's wicket Danni Wyatt-Hodge added her fourth four of the day, sending Farrant's first ball past short fine leg.

That's a real shame for Southern Brave, but they have set quite a good foundation.

Maia Bouchier was really starting to move up through the gears though. She hits so well down the ground naturally and she has a good bat stroke hitting through mid-on.

It's such a shame this batting partnership has been broken up.

    Partnership broken!

Tash Farrant, the seventh Invincibles bowler of the afternoon, has it as Maia Bouchier picks out Paige Scholfield on the mid-wicket ropes.

The opener looks annoyed as she walks off - she'd been moving along well but whipped her ball straight to the fielder.

With three fielders in the deep on the on side, Phoebe Franklin has to bowl wicket to wicket. She has to bowl straighter because you cannot afford to give room outside off stump, which she did there.

Those sorts of balls are a freebie for this opening pair.

  11. Brave 54-0published at 35 balls

Danni Wyatt-Hodge brings up Brave's 50, jamming Phoebe Franklin's delivery through a gap at backward point for four.

This is a very strong start from Southern Brave.

That is a phenomenal shot! A brave reverse sweep because it was coming straight at her and hitting the stumps, but she picked it up from the stumps and played it really fine. Risk and reward there.

There was nothing wrong with the delivery though, it was a really good line once again and it was hitting the stumps.

  13. Brave 46-0published at 30 balls

    And four more!

A reverse sweep this time from Maia Bouchier, working a full delivery through backward point.

She moves to 32 from 20 balls.

Well they always say that you're only ever one innings away from getting back into form. Maia Bouchier started clocking up the runs in the last innings and she's looking like a different player again today.

    She is batting with confidence.

    Launched!

Maia Bouchier finds runs down the ground again, lifting Amanda-Jade Wellington's second delivery just over the ropes at long-on.

A really good start from Southern Brave. They haven't lost a wicket yet and that's one area where they could've done better in this tournament.

They have started off well here. Maia Bouchier is looking good and Danni Wyatt-Hodge is looking good. It's been a positive start for them.

Marizanne Kapp has bowled 335 balls in the powerplay in the Hundred, picking up 26 wickets — both the most by any bowler in the competition. She concedes just 0.9 runs per ball, making her one of the best powerplay bowlers in the tournament.

  18. Brave 33-0published at 25 balls

Marizanne Kapp comes back to try and stem the flow of runs.

She largely suceeds - just three singles from the last set of the powerplay.

If there was anything that was lacking in Southern Brave's game, it was their opening partnership. Both of them are looking so good here though.

Maia Bouchier and Danni Wyatt-Hodge are making room for their shots, using the drift away from the right-hander and hitting at the right angle.

  20. Brave 30-0published at 20 balls

A fourth bowler now for Invincibles, the spin of Alice Capsey this time.

Southern Brave's openers continue to motor - Maia Bouchier lifts a shot over the bowler's head for four, then Danni Wyatt-Hodge another boundary through square leg.
