  1. 50 runs

50 up for Sussexpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 338 v Sussex 50-2

Sussex move onto 50 as Tom Alsop gets through for a single off Matt Henry.

This one is finely poised at the moment.

  2. 'Hampshire would love another wicket'published at 12:49 British Summer Time 17 May

    Warwicks 93-5 v Hants 300

    Richard Wilford
    BBC Radio WM commentator

Hampshire would love another wicket before lunch.

The two last night were crucial to get the two openers.

The bowling conditions are difficult but they're doing well.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 17 May

    Elgar c Brookes b Taylor 16 (Worcs 358 v Essex 46-3)

    Big wicket for the hosts!

Dean Elgar was the key man the Pears wanted to get and they've done just that and it's come via a fine catch in the slips from Ethan Brookes.

Tom Taylor comes steaming in around the wicket this time and gets a bit of swing away from Elgar who plays at it and sends it low towards Brookes who takes an excellent left-handed catch way down to his left.

It's a cracking catch as he had to react so quickly.

Elgar's hand goes to his head as he sees the catch taken - perhaps a little bit of disbelief tinged with disappointment.

  4. Postpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 134-2 v Yorkshire 255

Leg side, off side, it doesn't really matter... don't bowl short to Australian batter Kurtis Patterson.

Matthew Revis serves up two deliveries short of a length in one over and Patterson swats them both away for four - one through mid-wicket and one through the covers.

Another one back of a length and Patterson pushes it away for another three. Expensive over and Patterson is onto 44.

    Lancashire 369-5 v Derbyshire

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

The hard work was done last night by the two Georges - Bell and Balderson - as they battled through 60 balls adding five runs between them towards to end of the first day.

The reward has been a century partnership and Bell’s first 50 of the season, Balderson’s second.

For Bell in particular this will mean a lot – asked to open the batting in the previous two games, a role he’s not done before, resulted in a top score of 28 in the four innings.

In a more familiar role in the middle order, he struggled for rhythm and timing yesterday and first thing this morning, but has grown in confidence as the session has gone on.

Lancashire are pushing themselves into a strong position.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 17 May

    Hain c Brown b Abbott 23 (Warwicks 92-5 v Hants 300)

Sam Hain has not looked comfortable out there and finally falls as Kyle Abbott picks up his third wicket.

Th South African continues to find a nagging line outside off stump and this time Hain's defensive push gets a thin edge through to wicketkeeper Ben Brown. Abbott has 3-18 from 11 overs.

Hain had been dropped three times this morning, but goes this time.

Ed Barnard joins Beau Webster as the 62-run stand is broken.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark lbw b Henry 4 (Somerset 338 v Sussex 45-2)

New Zealand international Matt Henry has his first wicket upon his return to Somerset!

It's a big looping in-swinger and it catches Tom Clark just above the knee roll.

Maybe question marks over the height but the line was spot on and Clark is gone without really troubling the scorers.

  8. 100 runs

100 up for Leicestershirepublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 17 May

    Middlesex 232 v Leics 100-4

Leicestershire have scrambled their way to 100 this morning, losing three wickets on day two.

Captain Peter Handscomb on 18 and Ian Holland on 11.

  9. Postpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 113-2 v Yorkshire 255

As we said a short while ago, it took Kurtis Patterson a little while to find his feet at the crease on debut for Surrey but he's settled well.

The Australian batter with another excellent drive through extra cover followed by a single down to third man off Jordan Thompson and now Patterson is on 33.

  10. ouch!

Postpublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 17 May

    Durham 90-0 v Notts 407

Notts turn to the slow arm of Freddie McCann to try and conjure up a breakthrough.

His third ball clips the pad of Alex Lees and brings a brief lbw shout from Kyle Verreynne behind the stumps.

The wicketkeeper is soon down on his knees and grimacing after being struck in an uncomfortable place. If you know what I mean.

He gets a ton of sympathy from first slip Joe Clarke who tries his best to cover up a chuckle.

  11. Glamorgan go in frontpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 17 May

    Glamorgan 188-4 v Northants 185

50 overs into their reply and Glamorgan have got their noses in front of Northants in Cardiff.

Besides a sticky spell last night when they lost three quick wickets, they have looked comfortable and that's been helped by the steady hand of skipper Sam Northeast - unbeaten on 42 - and Kiran Carlson's 54.

Ben Kellaway is scoring freely alongside the more considered Northeast as Glamorgan look to build their lead.

  12. 'An important breakthrough'published at 12:36 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 338 v Sussex 37-1

    Mark Davis
Former Somerset seamer on BBC Radio Somerset

You felt it was only a matter of time, they started to get a nice routine of bowling fuller.

That's an important breakthrough, they needed to get Sussex on the back foot.

They've bowled well enough to get a wicket in this session, it was a simple catch.

  13. Postpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 17 May

    Worcs 358 v Essex 39-2

    Frank Watson
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

South African Test player Dean Elgar might be a key man here at New Road as Essex attempt to build a solid reply to Worcestershire’s 358.

He took 21 deliveries to get off the mark and has been far from comfortable but is batting in typical obdurate style and he will be difficult to shift.

Having lost two partners at the other end he will be determined to hold things together and is beginning to discover a bit of fluency.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 17 May

    Haines c Rew b Overton 24 (Somerset 338 v Sussex 37-1)

That's a big wicket for Somerset!

The first ball of Craig Overton's second over since coming on and he's found the outside edge of Tom Haines' bat.

James Rew makes no mistake with the catch behind the stumps and Haines, who was looking in good nick, has to go.

Haines is the third leading run scorer so far this season in Division One and already has three 50s and two 100s to his name, so that tells you how important it is to get rid of him.

  15. dropped catch

Hughes dropped on 6published at 12:33 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 338 v Sussex 37-0

Daniel Hughes has got lucky... It's a nice away singer from Josh Davey and Hughes pushes at it.

It finds the edge and it flies in between second and third slip. It's closer to Tom Lammonby at third and he sticks up his hands high to his right but it bounces straight out.

A tough chance and it came at pace but it's a let-off as Hughes runs through for two.

  16. Postpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 17 May

    Warks 85-4 v Hampshire 300

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

In the first 15 minutes, Hampshire clung on to two smart catches in the slips.

Thank heavens. Last week the catching in that area was poor.

    But they flattered to deceive.

Hain was dropped at third slip although the ball was travelling at a fair rate of knots off an edged drive.

Hain again survived a simpler chance this time at wide mid-off, before the same batter benefitted from the easiest of the three chances this time at first slip.

  17. 50 runs

50 from George Bellpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancs 358-5 v Derbys

Derbyshire's tough, wicketless morning continues as George Bell pushes Ben Aitchison into the offside, scampers a quick single and brings up his fifty.

It's the fourth half-century of the innings and has come off 101 balls.

Just the sixth time the 22-year-old has reached fifty in first-class cricket.

The stand with George Balderson is now worth 114.

  18. Minto performance from teenagerpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 17 May

    Durham 86-0 v Notts 407

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

I think James Minto has become the youngest player to score a first-class half-century for Durham.

At 17 years and 172 days he beats Nicky Peng, who scored 98 on debut against Surrey in 2000, aged 17 and 226 days. I can't think of anyone else younger, but I may be wrong.

He's played some lovely shots. The 50 included 61 balls and eight fours. And a blow to the head.

It's been a great start for Durham. Minto opened as a nightwatchman last night!

  19. 100 runs

100 up for Surreypublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 100-2 v Yorkshire 255

Another four for Kurtis Patterson through the leg side from Jordan Buckingham and that brings up the 100 for Surrey.

  20. Postpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 17 May

Middlesex celebrate Toby Roland-Jones taking a wicket against LeicsImage source, Rex Features

The pressure has been ramped up on Leicestershire another notch by Middlesex at Lord's.

Lewis Hill has fallen for just 12 in the past couple of minutes, bowled by home skipper Toby Roland-Jones, and the visitors are not having things all their own way.

All four top order batters are back in the hutch and Leicestershire still trail by 141 runs.
