Surrey will bat all the way down, it will be very interesting to see how today goes.

Bairstow may have to make a decision if these two are still here in an hour.

The weather looks set fair for today.

Slightly cloudier around some parts of the country as we get going for day two, as you can see from a short while ago at the Home of Cricket in Middlesex's contest with Division Two leaders Leicestershire.

But the sun should burn through soon and we're off and running. What will today bring?

  8. All set for fireworks as Anderson returnspublished at 10:57 British Summer Time

    Lancs 250-5 v Derbys

While Lancashire supporters will be willing their side to pile on more first-innings runs, many neutrals will be hoping the Derbyshire bowlers wrap things up early.

They were denied the chance to see James Anderson's richly-anticipated return on Friday after Derbyshire won the toss and invited the hosts to have first bat.

The England legend has not bowled in anger since his emotionally-charged farewell to Test cricket at Lord's last summer, and last represented his life-long county last June.

Cricket devotees may still remember the impact he made on his return to county cricket last year.

He warmed up for that Lord's test by taking 7-35 against Nottinghamshire, including six wickets in a session.

Can we expect similar fireworks today? Derbyshire batters will be hoping not.

  9. Wells stars as Red Rose recoverpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time

    Lancs 250-5 v Derbys

The cricket at Old Trafford on day one had a bygone feel, with 250 runs and five wickets coming from the schedule 96 overs.

Lancashire stuttered early, losing newly-resigned skipper Keaton Jennings and Josh Bohannon cheaply.

Luke Wells led the recovery with a stately 141 from 270 balls, with support from Marcus Harris (45) who unusually failed to reach fifty, and Matty Hurst (51).

But Ben Aitchison got the new ball talking at the tail end of the day, removing both Wells and Hurst in quick succession with a couple of jaffas.

The watching James Anderson will have taken note.

How many more runs can the Red Rose add on before he turns his arm over for the first time this season?

  10. Waite and Taylor pull Pears back into contestpublished at 10:54 British Summer Time

    Worcs 354-9 v Essex

New Road, WorcesterImage source, Rex Features

There's a bit of a chill in the air in Worcester this morning but the sun is expected to poke through the clouds later this morning and a sunny afternoon with temperatures of about 19C is on the cards.

A beautiful view of New Road captured here with the cathedral in the background - what a lovely ground this is.

On the pitch yesterday it looked like being another day of struggle for the Pears, who sit bottom of Division One, but Matthew Waite and Tom Taylor's partnership pulled them back into the contest and arguably on top against Essex.

Ben Allison and Yadvinder Singh will try to add some more runs this morning to push the Pears towards 400 while Essex just need one wicket to end the innings.

  11. Hants on top after Fuller's counter-attackpublished at 10:50 British Summer Time

    Warwicks 27-2 v Hants 300

    James FullerImage source, Rex Features

Hampshire will start day two with their tails up after salvaging an opening day which looked to be heading the home side’s way.

At 130-5, the scars resurfacing from their dismal batting display at Trent Bridge the previous weekend where they mustered just 312 runs in the match.

Yet good contributions from the lower order, spearheaded by James Fuller’s belligerent unbeaten 52, dragged them to two batting points.

They capped this off by prising out both Bears openers in the eight overs before the close to seize the initiative.

  12. Vaughan's career best 70 gives Somerset the edgepublished at 10:45 British Summer Time

    Somerset 317-6 v Sussex

Somerset put themselves into a strong position on the opening day against Sussex at Taunton but it wasn't all completely plain sailing.

The visitors were taking wickets at fairly regular intervals until tea, when Somerset went in at 193-5 thanks in large part to Tom Lammonby's well-made 60.

But perhaps Somerset coach Jason Kerr or skipper Lewis Gregory had a word during the break to get a move on because 19-year-old Archie Vaughan in particular came flying out the traps in the evening session.

Tom Abell fell for 42 but Vaughan pressed on for a career best unbeaten 70 from 111 balls at the close of play with Craig Overton getting his eye in at the other end with 22*.

Sussex have got work to do with the ball this morning and you feel they need a couple of early wickets to make some in-roads before Somerset potentially rack up a big first innings score.

  13. Surrey on top despite Bairstow's 89 for Yorkspublished at 10:40 British Summer Time

    Surrey 46-0 v Yorkshire 255

Jonny Bairstow flicks one off his legs for Yorkshire on the way to 89 against Surrey at The OvalImage source, Rex Features

Yorkshire battled well to get themselves in a promising position on day one after being put into bat by Surrey captain Rory Burns at the toss but couldn't really make the most of it.

Division One leading run scorer Adam Lyth scored his fourth half-century of the season to lay the foundations before Jonny Bairstow came in at five to hit an aggressive 89 off 114 balls.

But when Bairstow holed out to Tom Lawes on the boundary off Dan Lawrence, Yorkshire's innings fizzled out with just 18 runs added for the final three wickets.

Lawes and Jordan Clark took three wickets apiece with the ball for Surrey before Burns and Dom Sibley set the hosts on their way with the bat leaving them on 46 without loss at stumps.

A vital morning session in this clash between two historic old foes coming up.

  14. Can Durham batters seize back initiative?published at 10:36 British Summer Time

    Durham 2-0 v Notts 407

An intriguing Saturday in store at Chester-le-Street after an opening day which had plenty of to and fro.

The morning honours went to Nottinghamshire who reached lunch at 133-1 having been put into bat by their hosts.

Back came Durham, prising out seven wickets in the afternoon session, four of them to Codi Yusuf as the leaders’ middle order stumbled.

But crucially for the leaders, Haseeb Hameed remained at the crease and with some super support from Brett Hutton put on 122 for the ninth wicket.

The Notts opener carried his bat, bringing up his double-hundred and a fourth batting point before Durham saw out the one over they had to face unscathed before stumps.

  15. Welcome alongpublished at 10:16 British Summer Time

Good morning and welcome to our coverage of day two of this round of County Championship matches.

We had an entertaining start to the round yesterday, with Notts' opener Haseeb Hameed claiming the headlines with a double century as his side hit 407 against Durham.

Jonny Bairstow was also in the runs for Yorkshire against Surrey and we had fightbacks and collapses galore which sets things up very nicely for today.

Oh and let's not forget about a certain James Anderson who is likely to be in action today - be it sooner or later - with Lancs batting first and on 250-5.

It's set to be another cracker so let's get on with it shall we?
